You know how I like to keep you informed of these things!!
On Saturday 3rd March there will be a total lunar eclipse and can be seen from anywhere in UK and part of US. The Moon will begin to darken as it enters the Earth’s shadow around 8.15pm,** but it will be around 10.45pm before it is completely immersed in the shadow. The colour of the Moon during this part of the event, known as totality, depends on the atmospheric conditions at the time. It can vary from coppery-red to dark grey and is influenced by such diverse things as forest fires and volcanic activity anywhere on our planet. Coincidentally this is also the day I turn 40!! ![]() ![]() Being a full moon, it's fairly easy to find, so go out and have a look and let me know what you thought! www.sigma-astro.co.uk

That will be so cool. Hope the sky is clear for me on that day. Looks like best viewing is in Nigeria though. Hubby has been there, and says that we are much "safer" viewing from here.

Does this thread bring memories of a certain Jaffa Cake advert on TV, it featured a French teacher talking English to kids "Half Moon, Totally Clipse", well maybe not.
We thought about coming along to the Sigma viewing, given clear sky. But we can't just ditch the hound. |

We got a beautifully clear sky. Have been watching on and off since 20.30hrs. It was good, even with binoculars. I think there will be another one in about 6 months time.

Hope everyone got a chance to see it - it certainly was impressive!!
Sigma was joined by about 40 members of the public, so we had a very busy, but very successful evening! I finally got home around 12.30am! Here are some of my attempts to photograph the eclipse through the stages. You have to look very carefully at the third one - the moon is there, I promise!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
