Re: Freshers week?

freshers week is the first week at uni for the first years or freshers as they are known - we took Mad to Nottingham yesterday, I think it was the hardest thing I've ever had to do as a mum, leaving her there & was an emotional wreck  I'm in tears now typing this reply, doesn't take much to set me off :crying: poor hubby has to do a job at Sheffield uni tomorrow & he's not looking forward to it under the circumstances!
I'm sure she'll be absolutely fine & has made friends already but she's my baby

Re: Freshers week?

Well Linda, am totally with you on that one. We took Christopher to Edinburgh on 19th September and it almost broke my heart. From the outset he was just keen to get settled in and for me to head off!! We stayed two days and popped back to see him every now and then but finally, on the Sunday morning I had to say my final farewell.

He has been gone nearly three weeks now and I am still filling up writing this, I can't believe I am finding it so hard. Christopher and I were really close and I am missing our daily chats and just seeing his face around the place.

I follow him on Twitter and get the odd email but it's not the same really. Am hoping he will soon learn to phone home every now and then, but I don't hold my breath!

He is loving it by the way! Has settled in almost immediately and is loving his course work.

Only got two years before the next one goes away, do you think I will have gotten used to it by then??!!

Re: Freshers week?

I've spoken to many mums since Mad went & it's amazing how everyone seems to have had the same reaction - made me feel less pathetic :blushing: hope you're coping Karen, it's amazing what little things set you off isn't it :bighug:

Re: Freshers week?

Had a huge fall out with hubby last night. He just keeps telling me that he is 18 and ready to leave. Like I don't know that already. Doesn't mean I am not allowed to miss him!!

To be honest, not coping very well with it just now. I suppose it will get easier with time.

Re: Freshers week?

Aw Karen sorry to hear he's not very supportive - mine's been pretty good & has also had a 'moment' or two :crying: Mad's hoping to come home next weekend or the one after & we're going to visit in half-term - hopefully the goodbyes won't be quite as traumatic this time :bighug:

One of her new friends posted a lovely photo on Facebook the other day, she looked so grown up, she was always one to always have her hair up in a pony tail, but she had it down & straightened & I could also detect a hint of lipgloss - not bad for my little tomboy

Re: Freshers week?

Yup, things are better now thanks Linda. It took me harder than I actually thought it would - Christopher and I were very close and I really miss his contact. A friend pointed out that I should just take time and that it was like losing someone and I suppose she is right. Someone I lived with for 18 years isn't in the other room like they used to be!

Christopher is getting better at the contact thing too, so that is helping!

Hoping to go and see him in November, he has all sorts of things planned for his sisters!! Bless him.
