Hello to all,
I'm hoping to possibly get some direction from anyone here on a possible project that I am considering. My VW knowledge is nil and Toyota even less. I'm used to building high hp American V8's which is why I am in need of help.
I possibly have the opportunity to get my hands on a 1977 VW Bus that looks to be pretty solid. Someone has swapped in a Toyota 1.8 liter 4cyl. It supposedly runs and yard drives but needs completion. Cooling system issue is the biggest remaining problem. That does not really worry me as I have built many types of vehicles and proper cooling will destroy the best planned engine swap and I have done plenty! That being said what should I watch for and is this a swap practical? I'm assuming an adapter was used retaining the VW transaxle? One of my greatest concerns is that this must still be able to be flat towed behind my MH. I am thinking that I might get a different kind of hot rod that still will serve a purpose? At least that's my thinking anyway.
I will search this board for info and I've included a link to the VW bus in question. Thanks a bunch for any help ideas or maybe I should just run away screaming!
BTW I've always had a thing for VW buses ever since nearly purchasing a new 1970ish bus many moons ago!
