Super radiator idea's

Anyone have pic's of a radiator mounted in a super?

I was thinking of something like this:
Cut out the front area of the spare tire well.
Then weld in some heavy wire screen/mesh to protect the opening from road debris. The spare tire well acts like a Scoop.
I figure an aluminum radiator big enough to cover the well.
With an electric fan from either a mustang or taurus.
Used them in my jeep back in the day.

Thoughts?

Trying to figure out where and how to exhaust the hot air from the radiator. Thinking maybe a cowl hood type deal?

I could stand the radiator up and cut the back of the spare tire well out like the front again cover with heavy wire. Then kinda dome or box the radiator, which would solve where the hot air would go and would fix what happens if I run though a water hole. :-k

Like this:
Again click to enlarge!

Here is my .02, You can come up with some real issues putting a Rad on its side (Air Bubbles).
If i'm not crazy your gonna need a heat shield for the Fuel tank, this is what you have right? :confusedgreen:

As for standing straight up, with your proposed cuts you would lose out on cooling the whole Rad, only the bottom half.
If you do find a way to lay it down over the Well, cut your hole at the back and have the Fan push air DOWN through the Rad and air passing under the car would suck hot air out the rear hole in the Well... Get it?

OK thats all I have for now... -Dave

I think I'm gonna go with the stand up.
The fan shroud will direct air through the center with help from the fan. The fan I have in mind is from a mustang or taurus, they move something like 2000cfm,
I've used them to cool V-8's in rockcrawlers.

So cooling the radiator for the 13b swap should be ok.
I've also got an idea for extra cooling, I just gota figure my flow (how much water needs to be moving). If it works out it'll help alot of others too. For now I'll keep that part secret.

Most run 1" 1/2 lines. I plan on setting my rad. in the vertical position as posted. But I think i'm probably gonna run an aftermarket oil cooler setup with a fan.
The oil is a big part of cooling as is the radiator.

But if either is faulty your gonna over heat.

I have a buddy who live in NM and runs one in a beetle with a closed deck lid no vents. His only cooling is radiator and oil cooler. Never over heats.

Re: Super radiator idea's

theres somebody on youtube that has his vents cut out in the front hood to look like an evo hood.. looks pretty kewl, also i was going the stye of somebody on this forum . he drop his down and welded it to where the front dam on the super has vents to allow air to come in.. i was going to do mine like that, cut out in front of the spare well and drop it down. im planning on getting either a wrx or the same one that came out of the car i got my subaru engine in.
