Newbie looking for early direction for Bugaru conversion | |

I want to keep it as is, but am now looking for my next project. I've found a late 60s beetle as well as a 74 Beetle beetle in my area being sold for "parts" - the 60s body is in much better shape, so it is my preferred body, but the 74 is restorable if there is a compelling reason it is the better recipient. I also have a 1.8 and two 2.2 Subaru engines in my garage from my boys junking late 90s Imprezzas and Legacys.
I need to sell something to make room and give me $$$ for my Bugaru project - so I am asking for early direction - is there a preferred body and engine I should be starting with?
