Hello everyone- I have a 74' SB and I am using the 944 brake system conversion- does anyone else want to talk about handling/brake in a VW? I know that there are other sites that have a active forums, but I hope there are people here that want to converse about this subject

Re: Suspension

Do you mean adapting the beetle's parking brake cables to the parking brake on the 944 brakes?
Cause I believe that is what this part is for on the Kerscher Tuning site.

To find it in the site you have to click the bug on the top of the page. Then click "Bremsanlagen." In the menu under the same phrase find "Zubehör." And what you are looking for is "Zugöse."

Sadly my german is terrible and I dont know of anyone else yet that has those, but that is what you are looking for. I bet you good make something yourself if you wanted.

What are you working on? Not trying to be nosey, just asking!!

Nah, its not nosey. I've been off doing a lot of other things. Trying to graduate from college and the like. So my bug hasnt really been given much attention. But I'm working on a 79 Conv SB. My plan is for 944 brakes all around and would love to be able to have it suby powered. Got last month I bought the whole rear brake set up off a 87 944 alloy arms and all. I made a steal on them from a local yard. So I'm slowly on my way. I've been talking to Franklins about having them set up the front brakes for me when I have the money to get around any camber issues of swapping the spindles from a 944.

I am willing to bet that it the same as putting it on a T1 since you can take all the brakes off a T3 and put them on a T1.

Check out Franklin's for the front
http://www.franklinsvwwerks.com/
Or look around for spacers that put the bearings in the right place.

On the back it seems you can go two ways. Swap the arms and everything from the 944 or swap the brakes, stub axel and everything into your orginal arms. But that only works if you get parts from the stamped steel 944 arms not the alloy ones.
And like always there is building custom parts.

Now I only sorta know this stuff for beetles so make sure and look into if this works on T3's too.

Re: Suspension

for ojanbulletbug to uprate the swing axle set up for running a heavy fiat twin cam lump I installed a pair of GAZ fully adjustable coil over dampers with 100 lb rate springs on. this gives you adjustment on the springs to set the ride height and damping from zero to nearly solid.

Re: Suspension

how does one upgrade the front suspension? to say a mustang 2 front end or the like?

Im planning a 300 hp subaru motor, mated to a 901 tranny.

but having all the power doesnt help when you go splat into the canyon wall.

Any links or help here?
