I have the wrong water pump, so this one came off and the right one is on the way, like thursday. the 93-94 pump pulley is 13 mm smaller than this one, a 95-97 pump at 66mm. other stuff is getting scratched off the list, like centering and final welding the steer column shaft joint after centering. e-brake cable completion too.

Re: chrysler 3.5 midengined vanagon
I dropped the fuel tank one last time to bundle and route conduits, sort out the filler neck and the access hatch- all 3 are back together now - vacuum tubing is next, then the wiring. the end of the list....but the list says when its the end, not me. june 12, 2010, I bought this van and started cutting on it-- 7 days later I bought the donor sedan with the money I sold the van's engine and trans for. the metal work was the funnest part. I thought I could have 10" of ground clearance, positoining the e/t higher, but it stuck up above the deck 3", so the adjusting began. then I compromised and settled for 8" ground clearance and 1.5" aft of the axle centers. If you can set your e/t on center with the axles do it. it prevents geometry complications near the end with the half-shafts. youre too far into it by then to do any major adjustments.

tagging wires is well along and I have started to devise a labelling system a bit- to the point of relabelling the early stuff to the new standard. I want to be able to glance at the bundles and see what I need to keep and what needs to go, then what needs to be side bundled for later, like the ac and stereo-- I just want to get her running for now.

that dark bundle on the left is the fuel pump tail-it used to reach 4 more feet back to the rear of the sedan, and its new destination is almost at the radiator, so i will have to shorten it. [2 edits; Last edit by thummmper at 17:33:33 Sat Jun 30 2012]

Re: chrysler 3.5 midengined vanagon
two days were spent consolidating the chrysler ign sw on one poster sized drawing, just to understand what I've got. It was previously on 8 pages and confused me. the large drawings yield a new understanding of the target system. like headlights. I am currently adding the chrysler headlight system on the same page as the vw system. then I can size them up and start adapting them to each other. you have to give yourself a chance to understand each system. drawing them out helps in understanding them. where is constant power coming from? where does the ign-on power go? how is it grounded? what features operate here?
good basic questions when designing hybrid circuits, [the blending of electrical components from two different vehicles, by two different manufacturers. the horn, back up lights, turn signals, running/park lights, brake lights, instrument cluster, ign sw, are all redesigned in now. most of the e/t package stays original, with abs and airbag deletions. I am cutting out the ac as well, to splice in as a hybrid later. just focus on one circuit at a time. Start on the simple ones, like the horn [If you switched steering columns]. I didnt even know any of these were do-able until now-what a gamble! [1 edits; Last edit by thummmper at 17:35:10 Sat Jun 30 2012]

sunday the 12th I discovered a coolant leak that needs welding and the oil pan needs to come as well. the wiring is mostly all done. fluids, brakes and halfshafts are what's left.

the hole it came out of is tight due to welding stress-- the upper tube is arcing down because I welded the edge of the floor to it, so if I lay some beads along the lower edge I could possibly straiten it out--

Re: chrysler 3.5 midengined vanagon
this isnt so much a forum but my therapist. how does that make me feel? better. I have 2 things left before I start this monster, if I can remedy the bad elbow flex hose on the left rear suspension. Its a pretty ss jacketed empi flex hose...the short one and I think there's no cone inside for the iso male flare to seat on----so ill install a meyle hose instead. all I need to do is pour gas in the tank and clamp up the battery, and she should fire. It will only swallow 3 gallons of antifreeze until I get the thermostat to open--I need to reopen the vent on the radiator. bitchy little details!
