Re: Pics of my subaru bug

Well good, someone figured it out =)
Afew things have changed. A different oil pan went on, one that wasn't cut so drastically. Pieces of lawnmower blades (!) were welded to the bottom of the pan so it can smack the ground without effing everything up.

I had a lot of trouble with shuddering. You know, the whole motor and tranny and everything shakes like hell when you try to launch it. I disentigrated a cv joint with that. My solution was to take and old Gene Berg 'traction bar', and weld some stuff to it. On the bottom of that 2.2, there are 2 threaded holes in the bottom of the engine, near the bellhousing. I think the old engine mounts bolted in here. With bracketry welded to the Berg bar, I was able to mount the bar to the bottom of the engine. 7/16 all-thread was run up into the engine bay, through the perimeter sheet metal. Preload the bar about 1/4 inch and BOOM, no more shudder. I flogged the piss out of it the next day, and no problems. It does transmit quite a bit of vibration into the body, so I'll take it off and try to insulate it some with rubber washers. But it works pretty good. Maybe one day (soon) I'll take more photos and figure out how to post them up here.

The elbow piece came from the stock subaru snorkus. I just cut off what I didnt need. To connect the snorkus to the air flow meter, i used a sewer pipe connector (!) from Lowes. It works well, I should have spent more time sawzalling the hole through the firewall, because it looks like shyte. I was in a hurry to drive it.
