JOE_S_INDY 06:10:23 Mon May 7 2012 |
Right now we are at Jim and Linda Foley's home in California - and about to get back on the road again tomorrow morning after a lot of coffee. Kurt - Petersville region west of Petersville - we have 2 claims and bunches of invites to work other places. In addition I'll be visiting with DanAK and FUBAR on Dan's claims too. Muley - We'll share some coffee and tall tales this coming October! D Star - Looking forward to ....... baub - will do. Harry - Poor Georges this fall - tales to tell! Gopher - Fire Arms, Pepper Spray and Bells are for wimps -- rocks and pointy sticks for me! And to the rest - thanks for the good thoughts. Pictures and stories this fall. Be careful out there! Joe |

To start off we left our camera in Indiana and so we just bought another one in Colorado. You never can have too many cameras - eh? First though came a couple of hours in St. Louis with RussAu to swap tales and then on to Denver. LEONARD had back problems and so we had to take a rain check on our visit with him there and so then off to Las Vegas to visit with retired friends from United Airlines. Boy, there sure is a lot of food there in Las Vegas! Next to southern Arizona to look at a small hand operated crusher (yeah, we bought it) and then, after a few hours of 'dalliance' we headed to southern California to visit with yet another retired United Airines friend. Next, a couple of days visiting with Jim and Linda Foley got us right on schedule to drive straight to Trapper Creek. Of course there had been a metric ton of snow last winter and so it was weeks until we could travel to 'mining camp'. We had staked a claim of our own last year and so - after endlessly breaking and fixing wheelers and cutting trail we finally got our act in gear. Testing, testing and even more testing (of course that was just before the monsoons hit). While the claim had been worked extensively in the past there still was the anticipated "They never get it all" residue. Our buddy Mike came up for 2 weeks in mid July and we sent him home with a little over an ounce for 10 days of highbanking. So, here it is 13 October, light snow coming down in Trapper Creek while up in the mountains it's solid winter. Pictures? Only a few until the brand new camera stopped working. In a day or two I'll drive into town and get yet another one -- You never can have too many cameras - eh? Well, time to catch some sleep now - another big day tomorrow. Joe |

Sorry I missed you on your way through. If I had known when you were going to be through, I would have had them postphone the hunting season for a few days.... Next spring I guess. Drive safe. Harry |

Yes, we're both in Indiana now - finally. BJ flew down in the begining of October and I was to leave to drive down in a week or so. Then the rear driver's side axle broke and the now loose wheel destroyed the left half of the rear end. I ended up having to replace the entire rear end with a recycled one. After some more delays I was finally able to leave late in the day on Halloween. First night in the Yukon it went down to 14 below - and so sleeping was deferred to hour long naps for the first 2 days. After that it was a long (with a welcome visit with friends) trip south (to miss some heavy winter weather) and then east to eventally end up in Indiana on the night of the 12th. 6,000 miles. BobAK, LipCa and Baub I will be sure to visit this spring. dredger, GREAT to hear from you, too! azkid, I don't usually make it to Fairbanks - but if that can happen this spring I'll be sure to down some coffee and spin a few stories with you, too. For now, just another winter to spend getting ready for the '13 mining season. OH, as soon as winter settles in, there will be a full report on the rebuilding of "The Phoenix" trommel - including a picture of it's elusive Master Designer - FUBAR. |

We had a similar problem with a bad tranny back in '85, but it managed to limp us into Edmonton before giving up the ghost. We didn't see 14 below until we got back to Indiana, and that was some months later. |
