Highbanker / Sluice Box Deal for AK GF members

Hi All, I want to say thanks to all the suggestions, that have been made concerning my thermoformed Highbanker/Sluice Boxs. I've met many many miners, prospectors, amateurs as well as professionals over the years. And I am fortunate to live on a "street" in Alaska that has 90% miners using it the majority of the time. I see most pieces of equipment arent store bought ready to go, but custom made ingenius machines. Made by all different types of folks for one reason, to catch and hold GOLD. I'm not saying this is the one catch all, throw everything else away machine. Its just another tool in the recovery of that super fine stuff that floats away if not carefully watched. Its been suggested to me to make a box with the end open "ready to use" so you can just throw it into a stream and start sluicing. Well to those of you who have prospected before you know theres more to everything than meets the eye. It is plastic and will float, framing, mounting or supporting is necessary. But seeing the economy the way it is, one just has to figure theres going to be alot more folks out mining this summer than in years gone by. Most manufacturers are running months behind now, even weeks for some. But Im only doing this for a few more weeks till I go mining myself and the ebay price is fixed at $50.00 each for the month, but its been suggested to me to charge more in the future and include shipping charges. But heres a couple of pictures of the new end to the box, and right now if you buy 4 boxes at the regular price I will send along a 5th at no additional charge, just for AK gold forum members, so many have asked for deals and you know where I live:smile:

Perhaps I missed this info somewhere, but what kind of plastic are you forming?

Besides one being clear(till mud, rocks and sand) wash through, how many different style boxes do you make (2)?

What are their dimensions?

I couldn't get to ebay, do you have any photo's with both ends of the boxes showing?

Thanks and have a great day. allan

Hi, sure boxes are 24"x48" with an actual sluice size of 18"x42". The clear ones even when using mud and silty clay, the gold falls to the bottom of the slots. since your not scratching up the bottom of the box, you can see the gold. the clear plastic is PETG, the black plastic ones are made od Black ABS.

Thanks for the info, Couple more ?'s.

What is the material thickness & how rigid are they?

I'm getting confused with the photo's, Last photo's don't appear to have the end out.

Prior photo's show topside several wide spaced slots but the bottom shows many close spaced slots?

Any photo's of the upper end of the box?

Do you just have 1 box design with 2 different materials?

"the clear plastic is PETG, the black plastic ones are made od Black ABS."

What is PETG and how easy to repair?

Any ideas as to which material would handle the cold better?

Just came across the plastic pan thread, must have missed it while in the woods. There's more info in it about the boxes and some more photo's. Looked like 2 different forms in one photo? Have you done any truck shipping anywhere?

Thanks for your time & have a great day. allan

Re: Highbanker / Sluice Box Deal for AK GF members

hey Allan, Yes ive had better luck with the ABS in cold weather only because I havent tested the Clear PETG in the cold yet. There is a repair glue, but it will no longer be clear where its been glued. ABS can be glued with ABS glue from any place you buy your pipe glue at, home depot or lowes both sell it. Yes Ive just started making the ends open on some of the boxes to test em out. As far as patterns go Ive made 7 or 8 sluice patterns with different mold material using the best slot shape that we came up with while testing slot/riffle shapes. I've used superfine gold from the Bering sea and beaches of Nome Alaska as the test gold. Ive gotten similar results with different sluice configurations. The deeper the slot for the faster water. Still the water flow cant exceed too much height over slots or they arent as effective.Yes Ive shipped to Alaska, Utah, Idaho, California, and 100 went to Texas last week., oh Ive used both 1/8" and 3/16" thick material. And I am only making these and selling them till I leave to go mining myself at the Beginning of May. thanks later Dan

Well id wish youd keep trying, Ive gotten some GREAT ideas from the forum and have a new 5 inch wide clean up box in the making as we speak. 5"x40" ABS black. Easy clean up, fast realization of what you have. To Popandsons, your sluice box will be delivered when I arrive. Ive already sent 6 off to Nome and Im awaiting pictures, which probably wont come till the thaw which will be after I get there. Later Dan

Hey Dan,

Your ebay page doesn't seem to offer a way to purchase your sluices. I'd be interested in a couple of your "slow" units. I will donated them to my prospecting club for raffle. Then I can post the feedback of here for anybody interested.

Re: Highbanker / Sluice Box Deal for AK GF members

Sorry about that,My educator brother explained to me that I should have used "either, or" in the first sentence. I've had a number of sales thru ebay, which have all gone out 2 day air, so Im trying to cut members deals whenever possible. I've sent 6 up to a couple of west beachminers. Doubtful if theyll have any pictures before the thaw. But Im only selling these for another couple of weeks and then Im gone minin. I just started making a smaller sluice/large pan combo. it measures 12" wideX48" longX5" deep, with a 5 1/2" X 42" pan size.

Heres a couple more shots of new box 12" X5" X 48"
with a sluice size of 5 1/2" X 42". This system was all inspired by forum members. I'm not putting these on sale on ebay. (I havent been paid for anything I've sold there yet) and Im tied in with them for a couple more weeks before the price can go up.ha ha

Hey Dan, just thought I'd let you know that I caught up with my sluices today and they arrived in fine shape. Hoping to get a frame assembled in the next week and maybe run some gravel across them in the next few weeks. I ran my order through your ebay listing and didn't have any trouble with payment or communication(thanks again for the extras,........I got more than twice my money's worth!). How is ebay holding up your money? Do they wait now until feedback is left? Sorry it took until today to get that done, but I've been driving across the country for the last week. Anyway, very satisfied at my end. Good luck in your mining ventures!

Thanks, Thats Great News Kaveman, Ive been checking UPS Ive sent out. Theyre claiming "Natural Disastor" up there in Alaska. Which from looking at GeoJims Pics is believeable. Boxes should all arrive before the thaw way up North.

I like what you have going there. You can experiment and find what works. If I had a suggestion for the smaller sluice it would be to incorporate a 8-12 inch slick before the riffles.

OK thanks for the suggestion,it looks more like a paddling box now, with a 20" X 8" flat black surface before the riffles/slots. Thanks again to LJ in Nome.

That's what I am Talkin about!!!!

My shipment showed up yesterday. One of the big sluices is seriously warped. I am going to take it to my friends powder coating oven and see if i can heat it a little to flatten it out and let it slowly cool. Then I'll cross brace it with aluminum flat stock. The othr large box and the small box are fine.

I am setting up the small box as a recirculating sluice. It'll be a ton easier to rig up at home and in the field than the G1 for just poking around. And it'll run great off my 2000gph 12v pump on alot less water. I've trimed the open end off flat and I siliconed in a 10 inch section of ribbed rubber mat at the head of the sluice. Just need to run to the store for some PVC and fitting to rig up a spraybar.

Great you got them, seriously warped? which one? where was it located in the package? It should be covered with the insurance on the package. I will send you out another, No problem. Heres another shot of the shorter box with a longer flat section, its 2 inches wider as well.

Hey, Dan, as Im constructer of goldpanning equipment myself, I think, that when you would add any steps / profiles along the sidewalls of your sluices, it would be tougher. Just try to add a strip of plywood along the form sides. Or when the edges would be curved back down (as edges of almost every pans), it would be better looking and tougher.

Hey Thank you very much for the suggestion, I have used plywood strips, but they are only good for 50 or so draws before they start pulling apart, resin or epoxy molds are working better and easier to make "support ribs" with for the sides. Later Dan

I got Dans cleanup sluice up and running yesterday. I glued in a 12 inch section of ribbed mat at the head of the tray (pictured). Then glued in a section of flat plexi to act as a mini slick plate (not pictured). I also drilled the end, added a bulkhead with a 90 into the box and a valve outside to control flow. Works good with a 1000gph 12v pump.

Finally got to use these trays in September and I really, really, REALLY like them. Can't tell you how pleased I am with them, but I'll try to get a post up with some pics and even some vids if I can get youtube to work. Super easy and fast to clean. Gold recovery is remarkable. We were primarily feeding 1/4" screened material and for that the bottom tray really isn't even necessary. So little super fine gold reaches the lower tray that it isn't worth messing with. We did feed a little 2" screened and for that, the second tray might make some sense.

Here it is,..... http://bb.bbboy.net/alaskagoldforum-viewthread?forum=2&thread=315&postnum=0&highlight=
