Helpful Forum Tips ( 15:13:51 WedDec 31 2003 )

There is a search feature at the top of the forum that will allow you to pull up every message on the subject you seach for even if it has been archived.

Just click on "search", type in the subject you want and click the time feature at the bottom. For instance "5 hours ago and older".

Changing email address: http://bb.bbboy.net/changeemail.boy

You will need to still have access to your old email address to do this. They will only send verification to your original email address for security reasons.

I was thinking just one post with all the tips in it that you have come up with so far, then just add to it as you think of 'em.

Change the Subject Line for Each New Tip ( 15:06:34 ThuJan 1 2004 )

Jim,
It's refreshing to discuss small problems like this. Man-oh-man you're just too considerate! When are 'ya going to get old and grumpy like me and she? Hee, Hee, Hahr, Har, Har! !

I guess the subject line says it all for my suggestion.

So it's a new year with great new challenges - like figuring out how to visit Oregon now  !!

OK, with 1300 people on the board I guess I am outnumbered. I will keep this up here and add to it as I can think of tips.

I will delete comments from others when they become old or irrelevant. This is a multi-post so the tips will appear on all the forums.

Forum Tip Number Five ( 03:36:36 FriJan 2 2004 )

You can change your password to something you feel more confortable about.

To do This, go to your your "user control
panel"....then choose "settings"...then scroll to the bottom and change your password.

Don't forget to click "save changes". I would make the new password something you can easily remember.

You should not need it often, but once in a while the forum will drop you, doesn't happen much, but when it does you need the password.

There is a "toggle" beside your name at the top of the forum where it says who is online in case you didn't know. If you click the invisible or visible designation beside your name , you will become visible or invisible to others.

Forum Tip Number Seven ( 04:28:04 FriJan 2 2004 )

I don't have any control over usernames or passwords. They are kept by Best Boards for your privacy. Here is the address of the supportbforums: http://bb.bbboy.net/support-viewforum?forum=1
Do not give your password on the open forums, only your username and this address: http://bb.bbboy.net/alaskagoldforum

There is a place on the post you make for the gold forum address.

If you still can't get the problem solved, send an email to: support@bbboy.net and they will get it fixed for you. You may be able to get around all of this if you can find your original email where they first gave you your password. I would suggest that if you have it, you copy and paste the username and the password into the log in box. Most times when folks have this kind of problem, it is because one or the other was not typed correctly.

Forum Tip Number Eight ( 02:30:22 ThuJan 8 2004 )

You can edit or delete a post that you make if you see mistakes in it, or just did something wrong and want to get rid of it.

Click on the post or reply you made. When the window opens you will see a "drop box" on the right that says "Post Options". Click this box and choose which option you want.

Make the appropriate changes and then hit "Submit". You will get a confirmation window where you will need to confirm that this is what you want to do.

Forum Tip Number Nine ( 06:12:31 SunJan 18 2004 )

The easiest way to send a private message to someone is to click on the Memberlist at the top of the forum. Scroll down to the username you want to send a private message to and click on it. A private message box will open so you can type in it.

If someone sends you a private message and you have not got one before, don't close the message window if you want to reply to it. Simply scroll down to where it says, "reply" and click it. A reply window will open.

All of your private messages as well as your replies are kept in your "User Control Panel" Just scroll down to PM Inbox after you open the user control panel.

Have fun!!!

How do you put that bullet, trap, or whatever before your thread? Can't figure out how to do that.

Thanks,

Members cannot do that Cil. That is a function of a new thread or post being posted. Whenever a new thread or post is posted the icon appears. It lets people know that there is something new.

Sorry about that,

No problem. I guess it's how many days a a thread is up that the little whatever pops up. And I'm so new here, it'll take awhile for me to get the hang of everything.

Thanks!

No Cil, it is not how many days the post is up. It just depends on when you personally click on it. Once you do, the icon goes away.

Sometimes you have to refresh the page for it to go away, but it is supposed to be there just to let you know you have not read that post yet.

Have fun!

Re: Helpful Forum Tips ( 07:55:26 MonDec 19 2005 )

I think your problem is with your browser. You evidently made a successful reply to the thread, "stretching marten".

If you are using Internet Explorer do this;

Go to tools at the top of the page.

click on "Intenet Options".

Under "Temporary Internet Files", click the "Settings" button.

Then click the radio buttion for; "Every Visit to the Page".

This will refresh the page each time you click on or return to it.

What is happening is that when you return to the page after replying, it still sees the old page.

Following these instructions should do the trick. I posted this on the forum instead of an email so that others who may have this problem will know what to do.

Let me know if it still doesn't work, but you are posting on the forum, even though you cannot see it right away.

G'day Jim, seasons greeting to you.
Jim, how can I get long URL's and text to wrap to fit the screen? I notice some posts push way past my 17" display and it gives me the whoops.

Welcome to the forums Lemons, nice to have you with us.

Some posts stretch way past my 19" monitor also. This is usually a function of larg pictures in a post. It will expand the whole thread, not just one post.

Long URLs can be made short by using the http:// feature in the BbCode at the right of your post window.

Hope this helps you some.

Changing your email address ( 18:23:58 FriMar 3 2006 )

To change your email address for the forums your need to still be able to access you old email address. The notice of email change can only be sent to your old address because that is the only way the board can track who you are and that you are legitimately changing it and not somebody who is not authorized.

Click this link to change your email address.

On the top, left of this page is a link that says, "Welcome, Register :: Log In"

It is under the banner adds on the page. Click that link and copy and paste your username and password into the resulting window.

But it seems like you must have been logged in already, since no one can post a message here unless they are logged in.

Changing email address: http://bb.bbboy.net/changeemail.boy

You will need to still have access to your old email address to do this. They will only send verification to your original email address for security reasons.

Hi Jim,
How do I, or even, can I change a posting once it is posted? I put up a map that has a small mistake or two on it. Can I simply replace the offending jpg at Photobucket with a corrected one and maintain the link to from the posting?

Also it would be really nice if the font and this box window I am writing in now were larger. Is there anyway to accomplish this?

There is a "drop box" on the right of the window that has an edit feature in it. You can make changes there, don't forget to click "save changes."

If you replace the offending jpg at Photobucket with a corrected one, you will have to give the forum the new URL address if there is one.

Fonts are a function of your computer settings, you make your changes in your computer.

Shawn, use the email you got from Best Boards with your username and password. Do not type in your username and password. Instead, copy and paste both username and password into the log in box.

Most times when there is a log in problem it is because it was typed in wrong. Please try a copy and paste and see if that works.

Hi scrub,

Use the search feature at the top of the forum. Pick some words that may have been in the post you made.

Don't forget to put a check mark in the time feature, like five days or a couple of weeks and older.
