This board allows you to have a personal picture, or avatar, that shows up in all of your posts. BbBoards has a collection of images that you can use or you can use one of your own. The images can be up to 100x150 pixels...anything larger than that will automatically be resized.
To begin, click the "User Cp" button at the top of the screen. If you need an image, click the button that says "Avatar Gallery". If you already have an image, skip this step and go to the next one. Once you're in the Gallery, you can browse images by category. If you find an image you like, you'll see a button directly below it that says "Copy URL". Click that button and the URL for that image is placed in your clipboard for you. Use your browser's back button to go back to your UserCp page.
To add the image: click the "Edit Settings" button. You'll see a place to enter the URL for your personal picture:
If you've copied the URL from the Avatar Gallery, you can paste that in where it asks for the URL. If you have your own, you need to type in the URL to wherever you have your image stored. You can see that I've also added the width and height of the image in pixels...if you leave that out, your image may not display quite right. You can find out the size of any image simply by right clicking on the image, choose Properties, and look where it says Dimensions. That's the size in pixels. You can also look on that same properties box and it will show the exact URL to the image itself.
Be aware that some servers don't allow you to link directly to them. For example, if you have a homepage at Geocities and want to link to an image stored there, you won't be able to because they don't allow direct linking. If you have this problem and don't have a storage place for your image, email Genie at firstname.lastname@example.org. I've got space set aside for our board members to store some images and if you will email the image to me, I can send you back the exact URL for the image as well as the pixel sizes if you need it.
Once you have the URL and size entered, scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Save Changes". That's it...you should see your image in posts under your name. If you see a box with an X in it instead, go back and make sure that you typed in the URL to the image itself. It should end in either .gif or .jpg (example: http://www.cuckooznest.com/myimage.gif
). If that's not the problem, then it may be a direct linking issue and you may want to send the image to me.
If you have any questions, you can post them here or email me and I'll be happy to help.
