I was just working on a poem that's related to the true and false self dilemma that we narcissists struggle with. Here's what I have so far.
"The Child and the Shadow"
I have been watching you, quiet one,
Sad one, for slowly tread you past these shores,
While beside you walk two figures:
One, a child; and a shadow - yours.
Slowly turn you to the shadow,
And in heated whispers do converse.
While the child tugs your leggings,
And you offer only a silent curse.
Longingly looks the child up at you,
Like the sun that is always rising,
Green and golden, a playful lamb,
Yet the shade plays his role - disguising.
Then fiendishly turns the shadow down,
With red-gray eyes to freeze the child,
But then it rose! - The tidal wave,
That washed you and shade off - for miles.
It's sketchy so far, and might actually do better as a ballad rather than a short poem. I don't know how I want to finish it either. We'll see....
You know, of course, where this other world lies hidden. It is the world of your own soul that you seek. Only within yourself exists that other reality for which you long. I can give you nothing that has not already its being within yourself... All I can give you is the impulse, the key. I can help you to make your own world visible. That is all.

Yesterday this guy I have been seeing for a little over a month now referred to me as his "girlfriend", so I guess I officially have a boyfriend now.
He is 50 and never married and no kids, so we have a lot in common, for better or worse. I'm sure he would qualify for membership on this board, but what else is new.
The good thing is that he is open minded about a lot of new age/alternative stuff, so I talked to him a little about Attitudinal Healing and he seems open to it.
Hestia, speaking of birds reacting to stress, it is true that they are very emotional. I have two Eclectus parrots, Myron and Diva. Myron has been in emotional turmoil all weekend due to this new "intruder" in his home, who stayed overnight on Friday. He has been squawking at me and growling and being very demanding, and he also tried to bite me. He was also glaring at my boyfriend the whole time he was here. I think he is very jealous since he sees this new person as a rival for my affections.
