"Out beyond ideas of right-doing and wrong-doing there is a field. I'll meet you there." ----- Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Balkhi-Rumi, 13th century Sufi poet.

"Have faith that people do their best. I don't know anyone who would eat with pigs out of a trough in a muddy barnyard if he knew that a well-prepared meal was on the table in a clean house - do you?" Greg Baer

"The Secret in healing Narcissism is not to heal it at all, but to listen to it. Narcissism is a signal that the soul is not being loved sufficiently. The greater the Narcissism, the less love being given." ~ Thomas Moore, 'Care of the Soul'.

Q. Is it really possible to heal NPD?

A. Anything is possible. You do not have to be a negative statistic on a probablity curve of people with Narcissistic Personality Disorder

Summer vacation is here and my kids have kept there promise of cleaning their rooms once a week. Let's see where things stand in August but at least we're starting with a positive.

My paycheck this week included a rather large and completely unexpected increase in salary. I was startled enough that I called HR and said this could not be correct. I was informed that I had earned a merit increase for successfully competely the probation period of my new job and that the evaluation score determined that I warranted the highest level raise. This is the kind of surprise that I can live with and I'm sure as heck not going to complain if someone wants to give me more money. :cookiemonster:

And not a minute to soon. I expect to sleep through June and check out the world sometime in July. Could someone please keep me posted in case I miss anything important.

Damn man,

You're right on with the sleep thing. I slept 17 hours on Thursday night, and 14 hours last night. They were the best 31 hours of my life.... or at least, my recent life.

I also saved a bird that my cat had caught. You should have seen the annoyed look on his face after I took birdie away... lol, he had a feather mustache for a while.

Thanks, Jimmie. Well my weekend got postponed; I'm leaving Wednesday so we can all hang out together longer-- I had to be home on Tuesday for therapy. My positive is that last night I was in bed and I felt a little anxious, and I remembered being in bed in the past and being so anxious my legs kept twitching so much I couldn' t sleep, and then I realized this hasn't happened in seven months. And I haven't needed a sleeping pill in four or five months... My God, could I be getting better???

Damn,

My cat is on fire. This time he caught a baby rabbit and brought it in. I knew something was up cuz there was a commotion in the hallway and I went down there to find my cat looking guiltily at me with bunny in his mouth, and the dog looking on in eager anticipation.

I decided I was gonna take no prisoners so I made kitty drop the bunny, which promptly raced off toward the door. After that I got hold of the rabbit, which was still so small... but it didn't have any serious injuries on it. It was, however, terrified, pulsing with energy, and its heart was beating so fast. I was thinking whether or not to let the rabbit go, or put it in a box to recover.

Then I remembered something from my reading. A book on healing trauma had said that, when the natural fight-or-flight reaction is blocked, then a muscular freezing ensues that permanently damages and slows down the nervous system of the animal that cannot escape or discharge his energy in an aggressive fashion. In my mind this corresponded to the emotional frozen state of NPDism. I realized that bunny had a lot of nervous energy, and that if I put him in a box, he would probably become NPD.

So I let him go, and you should have seen him run... kitty cat was not happy though

I have a LOOOONNNNGGGG and storied history of rejecting things without giving them a reasonable try (food, people, events, books, etc...) My reasons are many and I've spent a lot of time justifying being rather closed minded. Friday night a couple of friends asked if I wanted to go folk dancing. Now normally I'd chose a root cannal over folk dancing. My reasons are many and valid. Folk dancing is for old folks, nerds, people with no life, people without two left feet, etc.....) Guess what? I held my nose and agreed to go. My original intention was to hang out in the back of the room and escape when no one was looking. However I stayed for about 90 minutes and was complemented for doing a fairly decent job for a first time out. Even more amazing was that it was kind of fun and I might be willing to return. Hmm, just one of the many things we learn if we stop judging life long enough to live life... Folk dancing will likely never be my preferred way to spend a day but its not bad now and than....

A bunny with an attitude is something I would have to see.

It's good to hear that you are trying new things, Tony. I think we all need to do that from time to time since life gets pretty boring without it. I tend to be very Avoidant so I am also trying to force myself to try new things and take more risks.

Re: 1,000 positive stepping stones on the path to healing ( 18:05:53 MonJun 14 2004 )

My wild spree of productive risk taking continued on Sunday evening with my first date since I forced a friend to watch football with me last winter.

This was a dinner date with both of us contributing a course. We ate at her house on the back porch that overlooks a beautiful pasure. Moscow Mountain is the distance and the worries of a full week were kind of shut out of minds. Her's more than mine :npdhumor:

I felt surprisingly relaxed for someone who's now dated about five times over the last decade (that's likely an overly opptimistic high number). We didn't do or say anything earth shatteringly spectacular. We just kind of hung out and enjoyed being with each other.

I had moments of being uncomfortabe, largely because i know she likes to hug and I prefer not to hug. The longer the evening went the more I found myself thinking about hugs and how I might avoid being hugged. All to no avail as she hit me with a surprise hug late in the evening. I'm pleased to say I survived the experience and we have tentatively set up a second date at my place.

I need time to process. For now I'd say it wasn't a complete disaster.
