My son has decided he wants a new job and announced that he wants to begin feeling the market by registering with employment services rather than just quiting his current job and hoping for the best. This is the most mature sign I've seen to date. I think its cause for celebration. :cookiemonster:

Last night I received a call from my brother in Colorado. I haven't seen him since I left Colorado three years ago and haven't spoken tio him in more like ten years. Another example of our touching close family  It seems his wife has been urging him to consider therapy, something that he has always fought tooth and nail. Welll, this time she has made enough progress that he is at least testing the waters. Maybe becoming a father has really had some lasting change. Time will tell as far as that goes. I'm putting this down as a positive more because I hope that's the way it ends up than because I feel certain it will. Our conversation was tense and to a certain degree it reminded me of the conversation I had with my sister many years ago as I was reaching the place of entering therapy. All I can say is I'm hopeful this is a step forward. Maybe there is hope for our family after all.

My family went on a major back to school shopping spree that covered almost every sale in town and pretty much whiped me out financially. Its interesting to see how excited the kids are and how ready they are to start school again when just a couple of months ago they hated the place. Summer is fun but I'm one of those parents whose ready for it to be over. Just a week to go and life will return to some degree of normalcy. Whatever that is.

I'm finished with my college buying list. Move-in day is August 28th... I'm still ambivalent about the whole college thing, but everyone from UVA has said it's a good experience, which I really hope it will prove to be.

My friend has reluctantly agreed something is wrong enough to make an appointment with a therapist. We are a long ways from recovery, healing or whatever you want to call it, but its a great step.

Today marks the one year anniversary (?) of my husband's departure from our home. The positive is that I have survived. There were lots of days I didn't think I would and some that I wasn't sure I even wanted to, but one year later here I am. I have not had a nervous breakdown (came close a couple times I'm sure) and I get better every day. I still don't love it, and probably never will, but I am surviving and my boys are thriving so as a family we are great!

Mel, I think its proper to offer both congratulations and condolences to such a date. The fact that you've survived is very significant. I see every reason to believe you'll do far more than just survive. Times like these tend to bring out some really painful memories as well. I hope you are able to treat this as a celebration and move forward. Who knows, maybe one day your husband will decide to heal but your family cannot afford to sit and hope that might happen.

I took another step last night and returned to the dance floor for something like the 4th time this summer. That makes four dances in almost 35 +/- years. So far I've not done anything to totally humilate myself or the other dances. Or if I have they've been nice enough not to say anything. :npdhumor:

I hope everyone is having a grand and glorious Friday the 13th. It seems to me this should be a formal holiday in honor of the Evil shadow we all share. :whatfemfreeseesinthemirror: Moving right along I had a second conversation with my brother and in the process he mentioned that my oldest sister entered therapy last spring. This came as major news to me. It has since been confirmed by my cousin who thinks she's actually making some good progress. Time will tell on that point. There are some encouraging things happening in the wee edges of my family that give me more hope than I've felt in a long time.

My therapist closed our session this morning by telling me I had done a good job and for the first time ever I did not try and brush aside his compliment by saying something like, " I don't know about that." It feels kind of good to hear someone say that I'm making progress in the right direction. I could get used to hearing that if the truth be told.

I'm still drug free. So far so good.

I see we are close to 1,000 posts. Are we going to stop there or keep going for 10,000?
