NickdiskRe: Is Someone Trying To Access My Account?

SouthernBelleRe: Is Someone Trying To Access My Account?
Thanks, Remy. I did a WHOIS query and got the information, and it's definitely not an IP from your ISP. I'll pass it along to Nickdisk so he can see if it's someone from the Nickdisk board.

Whoever it was definitely cannot get your password, though, using Lost Password.

BbAdminRe: Is Someone Trying To Access My Account?
SouthernBelle is right about the above Remy. Your password is only ever sent to your email account and the one reason someone would do such a thing is to make you nervous about the security of your account details. I have had many people use the link on my names and no one is able to get the information because my emaill addresses are secure. As for the security of free web based emails, if you log out AFTER you're done using it that helps-many people just do something else in the window and that leaves their accounts open for trouble. I am referring to email accounts, NOT your Best Board's user name account.

Unfortunately I am not sure that changing the password back to the old one will work since the main server would see the new one and the others see the old one-it's complicated and last night when I advised someone to do this (change a new password back) it didn't help. I am not sure if the person had one character in the old password wrongly or what. But there is a chance even changing it back will not help. I haven't had a moment to test this myself with another name, so until I have I don't know that it really will help. :ohwell:
SouthernBelleRe: Is Someone Trying To Access My Account?
Remy--please whisper the IP in the email to me so I can see how different it is from yours. Meanwhile, change the password on your email account if you are concerned someone may be trying to use it. At the moment, if someone has successfully cracked your email account and is trying to crack into your account here, they will not be successful in accessing the NickDisk board using it because the information cannot migrate to the server where it is housed.

At Best Boards, the Lost Password request will cause the password to be sent only to the email address we have on file for you. There is no way for someone to change the email address using Lost Password.
RemyTheWarriorBoyIs Someone Trying To Access My Account?
I just checked my email inbox today, and received an email from BBBoy containing my password (obviously a Lost Password email). I hadn't requested it!

I opened up said email, and saw that someone using a different IP than me had filled out the Lost Password box using my username.

So, my question is, should I be afraid for the safety of my account?

My email address is a YahooMail account, and I have heard that people can find a way to access Yahoo and Hotmail email accounts, and, using Lost Password features at different websites, can log in under other people's usernames.

What should I do at this point? I don't really think that someone would enter my username in the Lost Password box without a purpose for doing so. It wouldn't help them in any way, unless they were trying to get into my account.
