Please help me, it keeps happening!
I have now lost all of my file uploads, ALL OF THEM! Whenever I upload something it deletes something else. Why does this ONLY happen to me? Makes no sense what so ever. My board is a mess and I have no way to correct it. Everytime I reload our graphics, its there for a few seconds and it deletes it again. Logs show ME deleting it when all I do is click to the MAIN page or elsewhere on the board.
This has been going on for MONTHS now. I would really like to know WHY this is happening when I upload a picture. Today I switched from IE to Mozilla thinking it would make a difference and it hasnt.
Just to cover the questions I was ask prior times I ask for help ....
No I am not accidently massively deleting pics. You have to click the delete button for each graphic in the file hosting area, so for me to delete all of my hundreds of files accidently in a meer minute is out of the question.
It only is me. I have an another admin who uploaded a test photo just fine.
I would really like some idea WHY its on my end and what we can do to fix it. Otherwise the whole file hosting area is useless to me.
Thank you,
Frustrated and Tired Michele

Re: Please help me, it keeps happening!
I emailed this to the support email as well. And I had to finally break down and install a theme on my board cause the whole glaring white blank page was just unreal.

Re: Please help me, it keeps happening!
Hi MicheleisMe,

I believe Nickdisk mentioned this before, but the deletings you're mentioning are actually being done by your user account. I'll whisper a section from your log - search your short log for "Deleted" for more than today's:

If you're not deleting them yourself, then there's several things which could be happening:

- someone knows your password, and is logging in as you to delete them.
- you're not logging out, and someone comes up to your computer and deletes them.

I notice the IP address you're using here is the same as the one I whispered above, so the 2nd one is more logical - but it is possible to forge IPs. As a third option, you might want to check if your computer hasn't been compromised - some exploits found in Windows allow anyone to take complete control of your computer. Doing a Windows Update can't hurt, if you're using Windows.

For either one, I'd advise you to change your password immediately (at least 8 letters, upper and lower case, letters and numbers, and most importantly, not based on a dictionary word), and enable the various security features we offer:

- Admin Password
- Only log me in once
- Email Confirmation (of course, this is only any use if the person doesn't also have access to your email account)

etc. I'm afraid there's nothing on our end which is entered into the log as your own username - it is definitely someone logged in as you deleting them.

Re: Please help me, it keeps happening!
Its not happening in any of the above situation. I upload the file, Im brought back to the file hosting where I see them. I click the main page link and BAM they are gone! It use to be they would disappear over a few hours, so the above things could be possible. But now as soon as I upload them, a few seconds later when I click out of file hosting, they disappear and sometimes taking other files with them.
Ive changed my pw, Ive done all you have suggested. Nothing has changed, matter of fact its gotten worse.
I just dont understand how I upload a file, see it there and a few seconds later while Im still on the board it be gone!!

No, thats whats so puzzling. It happened again last night. I uploaded 22 files. I went and changed my background. While I was on the board like 20 minutes later, just reading posts, they all disappeared. Its so bizarre!

Re: Please help me, it keeps happening!
I'm afraid there's no other explanation than: Someone else has access to your account. Well, either that or you're accidentally deleting them yourself, which you've already discounted. I'm not sure what to suggest - there are no other options.

Re: Please help me, it keeps happening!
Ok just so you can understand whats happening....
I upload a file. I am brought back to the file hosting page once its uploaded. I see it there, everything is fine. I click the link at the top of the page to go to the main page or to the Admin panel and in that one second they all disappear. Im still logged in. Ive changed the pw's etc etc etc You have to click each file to delete it, you can not massively delete them all at once. So how can I delete 30 or more files in less than 10 seconds like the log up there shows, it just isnt humanly possible, or aleast not with my ISP LOL I can see accidently hitting delete one or maybe TWO, but ALL of them? I wish you could come and see it happen for yourself. Last night I uploaded 22 files. They were fine. They seemed to "stick". I changed my background. I tried to find the code for the triple background and POOF while I was sitting there in my board reading posts (not in the Admin panel at all) all 22 files are GONE. Also when you delete a file your brought back to the file hosting page right? If I were accidently deleting those files then I would know cause I would be brought back to the file hosting page not to the main page or Admin panel like I was clicking, right?
So just I understand you right....that someone somewhere knows Ive logged in and they know that Ive uploaded a file, they are logged in the SAME time I am, and their only purpose is to DELETE the files I upload?? Why? LOL I mean I am not a computer wiz but why would that be their ONLY purpose? It just doesnt make sense.
Could I have a virus or something in my template or SOMETHING that could explain it?? Im sure you can understand my frustration isnt leveled at BbBoy or Best Boards, I just wish I could use the file hosting area of my board, LOL

Hi MicheleisMe

Have you made sure you havent got any viruses or scumware installed on your computer? If not, you can check your computer for scumware with a program like Ad-aware, also, if you havent got an anti-virus program, you can scan your computer for viruses using Housecall

Thats ok Nick, I was trying to get Housecall to work but my satelite internet I guess is not reliable enough to complete it. I will try the adaware link now. I will let you know if I find anything! If you or anyone else has any thoughts what can be causing this Id love to hear it.

Hi MicheleisMe

Try downloading Ad-Aware from http://www.download.com/3001-8022_4-10319876.html  A few seconds after the page loads, you should get a pop up box asking you to download it

Re: Please help me, it keeps happening!
There is something bizarre going on with my computer. As soon as it tries to download a small window from my computer pops up to tell Ive been disconnected from my ISP (satelite internet) says that my local area connection: a network cable is unplugged? Good grief, what in the world is going on? LOL

Have you tried making another screen name with admin access to verify that it's just your computer and not your screen name that is the problem?
