They have been disabled temporarily, as the current way they work is very heavy on the server load (on one of the last maintenance sessions, they "blew"). They should be re-appearing shortly - probably later on today.

I love these boards a lot, and have been on for over 2 years, and you guys have been great with customer service, but it seems like this last maintenance just lowered the convenience level of the boards, which I'm a bit concerned about. I mean, usually you expect more services (which we've been told we're not getting anymore if we choose to remain on frost at our current rates), but at least I would expect the boards to remain at the same level. I never expected a reduction in convenience, especially when I'm paying for more than the technical bandwidth I use (since I use less than the monthly minumum). |

livingforjesus I'm afraid we had to change the style of the 'Username Swapping' feature as the old style started to use up too much CPU resources, as the pull down menu had to be displayed on every page. It sometimes added up to 10 seconds onto the time you spent waiting for the page to load

I noticed no long delay with loading the dropdown menues, and would really much rather prefer the supposed wait over what there is now. I am extremely disappointed with this maintenance. Also, I received a high traffic message for the first time in well over a year. In addition, some of my board's members (but not all) can no longer see the smilies. Honestly, this maintenance seems to have caused many problems and has definitely lowered the quality of the boards, and the problem it supposedly solved was nonexistant to me. I have absolutely loved these boards for a long time, and accepted that we would be getting no improvements, even though that was the situation when I signed up, but this is extraordinarily disappointing. I never expected a significant lowering of service quality--and to have it framed as an "improvement." I would doubt there are many out there who think it is one. |

I'm not positive, but i dont think we're currently planning on making any more changes. If we do make any more changes though, we'll try and make them as small as possible. I wouldn't look at the changes we've made so far as lowering the quality of our network, the changes we made were necessary to keep our network running as smoothly as possible, and the features we've made changes to are still available to use, so we haven't taken any features away from our users, you still have the option to switch screennames while you are making a post, it just takes one extra click
If your boards emoticons are hosted in your boards File Hosting area, have you updated them to reflect your boards new URL (bb.bbboy.net instead of frost.bbboy.net)?

Also, it would be nice if your current username could at least be displayed next to the swap button when you are replying, as it is listed on the top bar. All it says now is Username: swap (on the post screen). I don't think my smilies are hosted in my file hosting area--I use only the bboard emoticons. And many members can see them. It's very strange. Thank you for getting back to me. It is hard to look at them as improvements when nothing was wrong at all on my board before, and now it is much less convenient, so... However, I would really appreciate it if someone could look into the posting screen issue, because it is not how you described it--it is not allowing me to switch just for one post. Thanks! |

and :wink weren't working before the maintenance, but now all have been replaced by ugly red crosses.I would also say (correct me if I'm wrong, dear Chatelaine) that the newest members, total members still isn't up on L'Epoque d'Or. Thanks! |

Thanks for checking on the emoticons--I can see them,, but as you've heard from Cecile, a very few people can't. (I think there are only 2 of them.) Also, she is correct that the newest member feature isn't working anymore. Also, it would be fantastic if the username you're currently signed in on could show up when in the reply screen. Thanks for asking about that--I really appreciate it! Thank you for dealing with all of this overall. I am still very disappointed with the changes, because they're messier and much less convenient (and somehow we were able to live with the previous system for years with no incovenince to us whatsoever), and yet we are still being charged the same. But, at least there are nice people dealing with us about them.

Newest members and member totals haven't been showing on our board either for some time and I'm not on Frost. Our board's url is http://bb.bbboy.net/cuckooznest Just thought I'd mention it....I can live without it, but was curious too when it disappeared and if that would be back. About the swapping...I understand why it's been done and can live with it too, but have to say I liked the drop down menu better myself.

Nick (and whoever else does support for BbBoy) - this is pretty bad. You have a bunch of paying customers who all have the same problem, some for as long as three months. You deny the problem exists by telling us that the feature will reappear when a new member joins. When that's proven wrong, you simply vanish. My board members and I pay good money to BbBoards, and I think we have the right to expect a basic level of customer service. Yet we see none at all - on this issue and others. Very frustrating. |

For the newest member & total members to reappear on your boards, you need to make sure the Use Dynamic Profiles, Use Dynamic Registration & Enable Auto-Member On Dynamic Registration features are enabled on your boards, when they're enabled, that should make the newest member & total members reappear when a new member gets added to your boards memberlist

For those looking to fix this, go to your Admin Console and click on the 'Edit Board Setttings' button. There three options will be right at the top, just under the fields for your board name and such. Thanks for your help Nick. It would've been nice to learn about these setting options when it first happened, of course, but better late than never.  Now if we could just find a solution to those annoying, "the server is too busy for you" messages.

When you have Dynamic Registration enabled it allows a user to see the user sign up page inset into your board template, and the Auto-Member On Registration feature makes anyone who registered off of your board's register link a member of your board regardless of whether or not they've posted You can disable them again right after a new member registers if you dont wish to keep them enabled though

I unchecked them all, saved the changes and confirmed it. Closed the window, opened a new window. I re-checked them all, saved the changes and confirmed it, closed the window and still nothing! thanks for looking into it! |
