Odds and Ends
I worked on Odds and Ends this past week. Candace had the CSS from ****** and I took that out and added in the bbb CSS instead. Then I made it so that the categories were highlighted with green.

But when I go to the board, this is not what I see. What I see is the forum descriptions are boxed and the category names are not centered they are off to the side, and they are not green highlighted.

And when I go to post, everything is boxed. The sig's, the subject, everything. It looks very odd to me. I had lilac check it out, and she doesn't see the things I do. So quite possibly it is my computer, but why would my computer make me see the board as something else??

It is very annoying and I find it difficult to post there now. And that is not a good thing.

What I see is this: (view attatchement)

Could someone please check out the board? I feel as though I am losing it. Thanks. :smile:

Edit: darn, I couldn't upload it, the file was too big. How do I do a screen shot???

Hit the Print key on the keyboard above the Insert, home and Page up keys-hit "Print" and then go to start, Programs>Paint>and then edit-"Paste" and you'll see it there and can edit it a bit and then-this is important-save as jpg so it won't be a bmp and be HUGE! then try again to upload it. :smile:

Re: Odds and Ends
Yup, it's as it should be for me too. It's probably the CSS file that's cached in your browser. Try doing a hard refresh on O&E, or clearing out your cache. :smile:

I've done many hard refreshes and it's not clearing it up for me, how do I clean out my cache?

Re: Odds and Ends
What browser are you using? Let's say its IE-go to the top menu marked Tools>on the General Tab it will have, "Delete Temporary Internet Files". When folks talk about clearing the cache that is one way they do it if using windows and IE. :wink:

Yup I did that, and her board still looks funky to me. I don't see on my computer what everyone else sees. And I am finding it difficult to post there. Are there any other possibilities that I can try? :sad::sad::sad:

Re: Odds and Ends
Hmm, it could be something with the CSS file. Could you try downloading http://bb.bbboy.net/css/oddsandends_main.css , and paste here what you see, and we'll compare.. If it's different, then there's a cached copy somewhere on your computer, or your ISP..

And, did you take a screenshot? I've just upped the max file size to 100KB on this board now, if it was too big... Or just email it to me.. :smile:

thanks, I think I need to resize the screen shot. I'll go do that and then come back and post it. and I'll get the coding too. Thank you so much for helping me. :smile:

Re: Odds and Ends
Hmm. That's exactly what I see.. You're using IE? What version? You haven't, by any chance, created a custom ctylesheet in your IE options have you? That would over-ride regular pages.... But then again, if you had, that'd show on all boards.. :ohwell:

OK, can you try this, assuming you're running IE.

1) Open up c:\windows\temporary internet files
2) Look for a file named something like oddsandends_main[1].css
3) Delete it & refresh O&E.

That'll make sure that you're not viewing a cached copy. And if it still happens after that, then..

Re: Odds and Ends
I couldn't find a file with that name in there, so I just deleted them all. And it still didn't help the situation. What a bummer. Well thanks for trying to help me... *sigh*

Re: Odds and Ends
That is exactly how I see it too BlackSparrow. I took a screenshot last night and it looked identical to yours. Is it not supposed to have that squared border around the descriptions?

Re: Odds and Ends
No, ... Hollie put the CSS in for me, and it's not supposed to have square around the borders, it's laid out pretty much like my ****** was (the third link in my siggy here). I'm sorry :sad: It looks OK on my computers at home and at work, but I saw the screenshot too. I don't know what to do to fix it. That's too bad, I like the look of it, I wish everyone could see it this way.

Re: Odds and Ends
Ahh, it looks the same for you, Pam? So that's you & Blacksparrow so far. I recall that Pam's using IE6.. Hmm, are you both using IE6 maybe, and nobody else is who's looking at it? There might be an incompatibility with the CSS there... We should be able to find it now that we know it's not only you :smile:

What browser versions have you got at work and home Candace? I am on IE6 and it looks kinda weird...like how BlackSparrow sees it-have you got IE6 BlackSparrow?

Nope totally NOT crazy!~ :lol: :wink:

But seriously let chris and I go at it a bit and see if we can find the problem with IE6 compatability-thank you for mentioning it because I was starting to think I lost it over the way O&E was supposed to look and my screenshot is identical to yours and I am on IE6 so we'll let you know what we find out-now for your board-I saw the lovely background but you can't that might be like I said in the other topic-it might be needing the backgruond put in the Easy Customization settings. :smile:

Re: Odds and Ends
Ahhh, I've spotted the problem, I think. It's the same as in the other thread on backgrounds :smile:

This:

Code:

table{border:2px solid
#000000 body{background:url('http://bb.bbboy.net/oddsandends-getfile?file=Patsbackground.gif.jpg');}
.nobord {border:0px;background:none;}

shoudl be:

Code:

table{border:2px solid
#000000;}
body{background:url('http://bb.bbboy.net/oddsandends-getfile?file=Patsbackground.gif.jpg');}
.nobord {border:0px;background:none;}

Hmm, did you 2 copy the CSS from each other, or is that the default CSS? Just wondering if that mistake is in our default CSS....

Re: Odds and Ends
Now today I can't see the background but last night did-was probably seeing a cached page though...Weird how that css is harder to clear. :ohwell:

Anyway I am glad you found the problem Chris. I don't know about the CSS defaults-maybe there is a fault in it. :ohwell:

Re: Odds and Ends
You know, I did copy my CSS to her board, I didn't use a default one. Because with mine I knew exactly where to put all her colors, where as if I used the default it would of taken me longer because I would of been starting all over. So I wonder if I add in that little extra } that I was missing for my community, will make a difference on hers? I'll try it now. Thanks for pointing that out to me. :smile:
