Moderators ( 19:53:14 TueMar 26 2002 )

I have a problem with moderators

I have a private forum for moderator. However they can read the forum but cannot post.

They get the following message...

You must have higher authority to start a new thread in this forum

Now the Moderator has been set as a Mod. He has been given access and allowed to view under edit users (set private forum access + set hidden viewing forum ability)

Any Ideas ?

Thanks in advance

Hippo

Hi Hippo,

Sounds like it is a 'Forum Settings' issue:

Posting Restrictions In This Forum pull down to Mods & Admins to enable them to be able to post there. This sounds like what you're problem might be. You go to Edit Forums-Edit Settings of that private forum and down to Posting restrictions and adjust it there and I think you'll be all set-if not let me know and we'll see what else it might be.

Click "Edit Forums", then choose "Edit Settings" from the pull-down menu next to the private forum. Make sure that "Who can start new threads?" and "who can reply?" options are set to allow everyone/moderators, and not just admins. When it says "moderators" there, it means moderators of that forum, not moderators anywhere too. You can safely put it as "anyone", as you can't post without viewing..

Thanks for that it seems to have worked. I think the problem was I assumed that moderators meant all mods.... Doh

I have one other problem. A user who I have set to moderator status and then removed it and then added it again (dont ask lol) but now his status shows as newbie  any ideas ?

Thanks for your support

What is the person's user name and are they supposed to be a mod now? Might also need board link...Either BbBoy or I will check into it for you Hippo, but we'll need the username and the info on how many powers this mod should have-what forums etc.

Ahhh i see the problem....

It seems there is no dynamic updating of user status in private rooms ?

In the Members room (all can see this) the profile changed but in a private room his status is still newbie

Is this a Bug ???

Thanks Again and sorry to keep complaining

When he posts in the private Moderators room his status is newbie

Is he a moderator of the private forum? It'll only show as "Moderator" in the forums he's actually a moderator. Like Pam said, let us know username & board URL, and we'll take a look.

Re: Moderators ( 21:04:09 TueMar 26 2002 )

Ahh right I think im getting the jist of this now. Its just that other boards ive been a member of when a user becomes a moderator he is shown as a moderator no matter where he posts - not just in the forum he moderates.

Is there any way I can change it so that no matter where a moderator posts his user status is that of moderator ?

Thanks for all you help and sorry for being a pain lol

You're not being a pain Hippo-eveyrone needs time to get used to something new and Best Boards is pretty unique so don't feel bad about having questions about how it works.

If you went ahead and made this user a mod in ALL forums-like check all the boxes he will appear as a Mod whenever he posts as well as be able to help moderate in all the forums. If you make him a 'Mod' of the private forum he would appear as Moderator in there-but you have to make him a mod of each forum so that will show up otherwise it will revert to the user level his posts are at.

Thanks Hippo. That is what we're here for and we're always glad to help our members with whatever issues they have about using Best Boards. No IRC channel and I don't think we're planning on getting one either. But we do have something just as good in store for our members in the coming months.
