Is it possible for a user to format posts using tables?

If you make a custom BbCode for it I believe so yes. But HTML is not allowed in posts so you might be able to achieve what you want by creating some custom BbCodes.

BbBoy will better be able to direct this when he is on tomorrow Dr Dun since I am not sure exactly how you would do it-however for the glow text people are wanting it is done in a custom Bb Code in a table-you can check it out
here in a topic or
here in the actual Sample board admin center.

Thanks. I want to be sure that I'm being clear. I'm asking from a user's perspective, not an admin's.

Sure Dr Dun. No problem, I know tables have many uses and if a admin has a custom BbCode set up you can use them.

Hi Dr Dun

It depends what you want the tables for - most people want them in order to set out data in columns so that it's all lined up. Is that what you had in mind?

If so, you can use the "pre" tag which gives each character the same amount of space (including spaces, which can be preserved).

You could make custom bbcodes for <pre> and </pre> - these would be used as
 and
.

If you really want tables, this would be quite complicated because you would have to set up bbcodes for all the tags you used in a table - table, tr, td etc and then all the closing tags as well. Bit of a pain really.

I've just set up a table bbcode so that people can put their text in a nice box if they want to.

BbBoy or Pamster might have some other suggestions as well.

That is what I think too bridgeaddict, that maybe BbBoy might have a idea or be able to add something-when I saw this I thought of you and how you had set some up to work for your board.

Thanks for the help bridgeaddict. Lined up columns is what I had in mind but I was hoping to be able to use tables features like borders, wrapping, <th>, bg colors, etc.

I realize that's asking alot but I figured I'd ask. This forum software has surprised me in the past.

Thanks for your help too, Pamster.

Here's what I do for trusted members who wish to be able to use html:

I make them moderators, but without any powers actually given and I give them a custom title. You can make someone a mod and just leave unchecked all the mod boxes, so they can't actually do anything - this has worked really well on my board. They don't even need to know they are mods - I just tell them they have "html permission" - in fact that's their custom title.

No problem Dr Dun! And thank you bridgeaddict for sharing how you worked around it. I think that is a really cool way to do what you wanted to do and it works without having a ton of mods with powers you might be worried about.
