Hello everyone,
Fairly new member here, been lurking for some time and so far have three trips to the Klamath River chalked up. Older brother and I have been working on one claim and have gotten some nice gold. No nuggets yet but some pickers and total around 1/2 oz. After learning that rough panning is faster than using a battery powered high banker our last trip was the most productive. Most gold was gotten after my brother jacked and pried open a large crevice. I've watched Dave's videos but still have some questions on extrapolating out from amount of gold in a particular pan to what would be in say a yard of material. One question I have that would be of great help is what would the dimensions be of a cube of one grain of gold? Regards, DanP |

One grain of gold has about the same size as a pice of course ground pepper.
A few items in your figuring, it is worth about $2.90 and if you use 5 gallon buckets to move your material, there are about 40 FULL 5 gallon buckets in yard ratled ![]() |

A grain of gold is a weight measure in the troy system used to weigh gold.
IE; One troy ounce = 20 dwt = 480 grains = 31.103 grams Ratled is correct that at around $1400.00 a grain is worth around $3.00, however placer gold is not pure and 75% of spot is what most people offer for placer gold which makes a grain honestly worth around $2.00 |

So a one grain cube of 24K gold would measure 0.059" on one side. A tiny bit less than 1/16".
A one ounce cube of 24K would measure 0.462" on one side. http://rhar.info/gold/en/watevalu.stm What initially confused me was WIKI-answers listed one ounce of gold as being a 0.11101" cube based on weight and size of FT Knox ingots. DanP |
