kac1 compressor ( 20:38:30 MonApr 7 2014 )

So, I bought a stand alone compressor set up. a kac keene compressor hooked up to a 6.5 hp motor running it through a 6 gal keene tank.
My question is, when I run the compressor it has a "Ticking sound" coming from the unit itself.
I am running it at 2400 rpm, which is just above idle for this motor. I do have a tach hooked up to it.
Does anyone else have one of these compressors? does it make noise?
This unit is new, and it is the first one I have used so thought I would put it out there for discussion.

Since you are runnng at idle and hearing this noise, I suggest that you are hearing the pressure pop-off valve working. The compressor builds up to a pr-set pressure and then the valve pops off to keep the pressure constant.

Try holding your finger close to the pop-off valve and see if you feel the pressure when you hear the noise. The valve should be brass, or brass colored.

I checked the pop off and it is not that. this seems to be coming from the lower end. it will start right away even before any pressure build up. I have even tried it with no hose attached so it could not build pressure. I have run the T 80s and have heard some strange noises come from them even being mostly sealed.
this comperessor is realy open at the bottom, maybe it is normal

I called keene engineering today, they said that they had issues at first but this one should be good to go. they told me to run it and see what it does.
I sure hope it does ok, I would hate to be underwater when or if it has an issue.
the guy told me if it does send it in and they will fix it.
I would hope they would!!!!:duuh:
I hope to still hear from others that have them and what their experience with the KAC is.

1) EVERY air compressor will have an issue eventually, including you running out of gas, so be prepared at all times. It will ALWAYS happen after you exhale and while you are doing hard work. Practice ditching your gear

2) I have a KAC and it works just fine, be sure to get a spare belt for your kit as replacements are hard to come by when you are far away from a town. Write the size on the pulley so you will always know what size you need to get.

3) I switched my snorkel from PVC to a flexible hose. The shaking always causes them to shake themselves to death and crack. Be sure to get NOTHING in the intake as the KACs are very delicate inside

You can see my intake in this picture
