Lost Raven ( 18:39:29 ThuAug 7 2008 )

Hi everyone-this is NOT a piece of mining equipment that's lost - it is an actual big black bird-a Raven! My husband mines full time in the Happy Camp area and I volunteer at home with a wildlife rehabilitation facility. I brought up a hand raised raven about a month ago hoping we could re-join him with his own kind. He "terrorized" the town for a short time and was just showing interest in other ravens when he vanished-about a week ago. I know everyone is busy finding gold this time of year- but I also know a fair amout of time is spent "networking" with each other! if anyone's heard of a semi-tame Raven-please let us know. We just want to make sure he's O.K. Heard today someone was feeding a bird in the Cade Mtn area? Anyone having anything stolen by this bird-we are not responsible-ha-ha! Anyway-thanks for your help! Please call 598-4851 with any info!
Happy mining!

Thanks for the info but we were in "contact" with him until the 30th of July. I know he liked the motel/and fire camp with an occasional visit to the liquor store and post office! I think someone told me he interrupted a meeting at the Lion's Club-sorry about that!

Your raven didn't bother us too much at the Lions Hall. In fact he tasted just like chicken... Just kidding birds can be good friends. I used to have a pet magpie that I raised when I was a boy. Whenever I went outside she would fly down and land on my head or shoulder. I got a lot of strange looks... but I always did even without the bird.

I about fell out my chair, lol! Sorry I hope your bird is OK! Did try to eat a crow one time and that was the last time. My dog wouldn't even eat it.

Hmmm, interesting thought if one could train a bird to find and fetch nuggets...from nature that is...

We're hoping he took off with some of "his own kind' and found them WAY more interesting then us humans! At he wildlife center where he came from we have 7 bear cubs that were orphaned-including the burned cub "li'l Smokey from the Trinity fire and when they are released they don't look back-funny we had so much trouble with a Raven! He certainly was entertaining!
