Rebuilding equipment ( 17:12:44 TueNov 13 2007 )

I nearly drove Craig nuts last season watching him put together the new 8". And then I lost my notes that I was gonna use to modify mine.

Does anyone have the "magic ratio" of flare length to width? I got my discharge too wide last season and my big rocks kept piling up at the top of the sluice.

Came to the top last season to find the last half of dredge (8) submerged and wife heading for higher ground. Its funny now. But not at the time.

Craig is off the net for a short while. I am sure he will chip in when gets back.

I seem to remember that overall length to opening width ratio was 3:1. Can anyone verify that?

Sorry guys, lost all my notes from back when I was building dredges for Dave. But I know that the width of the sluice vs water flow is more critical for a proper recovery system that does not overload. You'll have to wait for Craig to get back online, or take measurements of dredges that work. Keene's online catalog may have length of flare jets on the models they sell.

what size dredge? 3 to 1 is right.

Its an 8.

I promise...you've never seen a mess until you have a rock about the size of a loaf of bread lock up crossways in the last riffle. Come up to find a pile 12 inches deep and half the length of the 12 foot sluice.

And a mad wife that's already deserted the sinking ship and headed toward higher ground.
