I'm putting together my power sluice for the spring. What length suction hose (how many feet) should I have cut for my China made pump? I have 50 ft of 2" discharge, need a length of 2.5" suction.

Randy, you said a "China Pump" that is normally a pretty anemic trash style. You may have trouble if you have much distance to pump or need to lift the water much. Those pumps work ok on highbankers that don't need much pressure to operate but are terrible on dredge attachments.

Just using it for power sluice. I have 30 days to return. Specs, if true, max suction at head 25ft, total head 82ft, max discharge 145gal. Will be doing a test soon. How many feet of lift would you guess a power sluice would need on the banks of the Klamath? If flow is poor, I guess I will need to spend more than 175 on a better unit.

hey it all depends on how far of a incline from pump to hibanker??

There are places on the 49er claims that would encompass all situations for highbanking.
On some claims, the banks are steep, and the amount of lift will be greater, on some claims the banks are flatter and you will need minimal lift. Remember by the clubs surface mining guidelines, you may only highbank below the high-water line, so I doubt you will find many spots that the high-water line is above the 82 feet of head you claim your pump is capable of. I would recommend being familiar with the clubs guidelines on this issue, you can read about it here; New 49er's surface mining guidelines. But you never said that you were going to be mining on club claims. Mark PS as far as your initial question about suction hose. Do you mean the intake hose for your pump, I would get 10 to 15 feet, or do you mean suction hose for your suction nozzle? I would get 15 to 20 feet. |
