Here in the valley East of Phoenix, the tap water is almost undrinkable and we have to refill our water bottles at "water and ice" stores to maintain a fresh drinking water supply.
Is there a problem with the tap water in HC or is it pretty good to drink? |

The municipal water supply originates, I believe, in one of the nearby creeks above town where there is a chlorination and floc unit. Only sediment load is visible during spring run-off. I have even drank the untreated water from the creeks with no ill effects. Dive there enough and you'll ingest some water there anyway. I wouldn't try that with the river water though. Beaver-fever.
Other than the river, the water supply is heaps better than where you reside down south. |

I would not recommend drinking from the creeks.....I've done it many times and never gotten sick but others have gotten the bad bug!
It's in the creeks as the bears pass(pun) it into the streams. Bottled water is too easy.... |

Are there places in HC where a gallon water-bottle can be refilled with good drinking water?
The Water & Ice stores charge 2-bits a gallon for refills here, but it's reverse osmosis and worth it. |

Harry, you are gonna give them city boys the wrong idea about our unique flavoring agents in the drinking water from the creeks.
Seriously, the HC water supply originates in Elk creek just above the campground where I stay. I usually fill water jugs outta the first faucet that I come to every morning. If ya gotta have store-bought, then the local grocery is very well supplied. If ya got a special request, just ask Bob( store owner). He can usually satisfy special needs in a few days, but it gets kinda pricey. And I really have drank my share from the creeks; its every bit as good as my well water. When its 100 degrees in the shade, some of those waters will still make your teeth hurt with the chill. |

Micro...
I have drank water from an open creek or spring on the Salmon river since 1948. I agree, it's the best tasting water! But, there have still been cases of guardia(sp?) So, while I will still drink from certain areas, there are areas that I will not drink from just because I never have. If you can get to the source of spring water, probably no problems. I suspect that that water coming from Elk creek to the campgroung is treated? Anyway, let the drinker beware! |

Thanks for all the replies, PMs and emails on the water subject.
I've got it now. The water is good from the tap in town. Glad to hear I don't have to haul a bunch of drinking water with me. |
