Legal update ( 15:14:39 FriJan 23 2009 )

Ours and Siskiyou County's lobbyists had arranged at least a dozen very productive meetings in the offices of influential lawmakers during the past few days (State Capital in Sacramento).

I'd rather not make public the things that we discussed or the strategy we are pursuing, but I will say that we are building strong consensus that the continuous unjustified attacks upon our industry must stop.

The lobbyists are now working on 2 more days of meetings in mid-February.

As part of this, our attorney is putting together a formal Petition to the California Department of Fish & Game (DFG) for Emergency Regulations to prohibit the Karuk Tribe from doing any further dip net fishing on the Klamath River until a full CEQA review has been completed to determine the impacts.

This petition will be filed immediately if DFG imposes Emergency Regulations upon suction dredgers. After all, if Emergency Regulations are required to protect fish from suction dredgers (who don't harm fish), they most certainly will be required to prevent Karuks from killing the very same fish they are trying to protect from us!

We are still going to need to raise the money to pay for all this, so I am again requesting that you guys please help as best you can. There is a "Donate" link at the top of this page that will take you to a Paypal page which directs contributions into our legal account.

For those of you who have helped during this past week, I thank you very much!

As of this morning, our legal account remains $3,900 in the hole, so we still have a ways to go. I'm worried about the bills we have not received yet for all the accelerated activity from our specialists during the past few weeks. It's better if we can catch things up before those bills arrive!!

Thanks for anything you can do to help with this effort! us.
