21 miles of new dredging properties in Oregon! ( 06:16:07 TueMar 13 2012 )

Since it appears unlikely that the suction dredging moratorium will be lifted in California in time for the 2012 season, we have moved forward and purchased 21 miles of new dredging properties along the South Umpqua River drainage in southern Oregon.

These will now be exclusively available to our active members. An updated map and Claims Guide information will be available soon.

Longtime, supportive members, Alan Mash and Jim Yerby, have recently made yet another very successful prospecting trip to the new properties. The video-enhanced story of their adventure is included in our March newsletter.

It would be helpful if share this fantastic news with all your friends on Facebook by using the "Like" button in the newsletter.

Colo nuggets, great news, great properties, can't wait until the map is ready. I'm finally going to go out West and do some dredging on New 49er claims! Hopefully the water will be OK during mid July(DEF reunion):whoohoo:

Alan you should have Jim drop you off above the canyon and take your kayak down through there for some video and panning! Maybe some people need to do a raft survey of the river while its high.

I am a new prospector and member of the club. Oregon has state lands and BLM lands. they have a couple permits and different rules for sluicing etc,. Could one of the MASTER MINERS set down a list of what I need permit wise and what I should know before traveling to Douglas County. I have been to the Oregon state lands site but there isn't a lot of information and I am not sure if the same reasoning works on BLM land.

Any help would be apprectiated.

Maybe I don't understand what was meant, but, Dave said in the 1st post in this thread, that these new Oregon claims will be only open to active members, It dosen't sound like a new member is yet to be an "active" member, I am sure he will let us new members know if we can prospect on the new 21 miles of claims in Oregon. OK I have been waiting for someone in an official capacity to respond for to you but I know they are busy so no need to keep you waiting. If you are a member of the New 49ers you can use any of the clubs properties. The only partial memberships that I ever known of where the 2 week ones but I not sure they even still have those - and then you could use any claim you want.

You are either a member or not , the easiest way to know if you are members is if you have a member number on the paperwork you got.

If I have to make a guess to any confusion is that for the last couple of years Dave and the groups of HHIGHLY DEDICATED CLUB MEMEBERS have put together dredging opportunities in OR that are on OPEN areas. these are open to anyone the club just organized all of the info and did all of the leg work for us. The claims that we are getting are just that - claims - and you have to be a member for that

When in doubt call the office the STAFF THERE IS GREAT TO WORK WITH

Hello all, new member here just saying hello and wondering some thoughts on if the new claims could possibly be as rich as the Rouge, going to spend the whole season dredging this year. Whats up with only 1500 permits in California seems like they might start issuing them this year, one would have to act fast to get one, thanks and hoping to meet other members this summer. Ratled is correct on this.

"Active" means dues paid up to date.

As new members will not get billed for annual dues until late in the year, you guys are definitely "active!"

I have heard good stories about gold on the S. Umpqua, and even saw some of it during a rally there several years ago.

My best guess is that the opportunities are at least as good as the Rogue, because so much of the Rogue is difficult to get out into because of deep, fast water. What I have seen of the S. Umpqua is not like that.

But we will know a lot more once the season gets going!

Thanks Dave im super pumped about getting my membership, 32 year old Tattoo artist and ready to put my Keene 4 inch to work, not to mention some early morning fishing. i was planning a trip to alaska 40 mile but my grandfather is having some health issues this year and dont think 4 months miles away from healthcare could work out. Not to mention when my kids come to visit halfway through the season (from soth east AZ)they will have one heck of a playground

Mostly , i have done exceptionally well with my Minelab and Ive been dredging the muddy Dessert monsoons with my 3 in combo for over 15 years and cant wait to get into some mountain water

Also wanted to say thanks to Rusty for pointing me in this direction and for his advice:thankyou:

Whoo-hooo new properties almost available!

I see the map of the 19 public lands that look like they can only be used for suction dredging "bank to bank".

Are the other 8 new Oregon TN49'er properties also going to be suction dredging only?

For those of us that don't own a suction dredge & that enjoy highbanking & such, I hope there will also be access to some paydirt beyond the "bank to bank" zone.

Thanks Dave,

TyD59, You might want to refer to the comments on the Public area maps regarding "bank to bank" dredging. SU1, SU3, SU5, Su7 are only bank to center of river open water. Not all of the Public areas are bank to bank.

@aumuts thanx for the comment. Yes, some of the SU properties are center to bank, and I believe the rest are bank to bank. From that description alone, and maybe being in parks(?) & near roads I would not think highbanking holes would be allowed.

I wonder if highbanking is legally allowed above the water line on any of these properties? I am not sure of TN49'ers definition of "bank" (high water line, current water line, etc).

I'm looking for definite areas that I can highbank, and wondering if any of the private lands (or public lands listed) will have that feature. I think highbanking, crevicing, & booming, should all eventually be listed on these sites and on our old Happy Camp sites too.

Actually a grid with those amenities (and others such as camping) on one axis and the site code name on the other, would be a great help to us all. Currently we must sift though pages and pages of info to figure out if the area works with our equipment. A simple chart would simplify it much.

Hi-Banking is not allowed on private property. Property owners along the rivers really frown upon people tearing up their river banks. However, in Oregon there are public recreational mining areas that hi-banking is allowed. Be careful where you do go and make sure you clean, fill-in any holes you do make.

Hi Dave! Just wanted to thank you and your associates on all the hard work you have done on behalf of dredgers especially in Oregon. I appreciate your efforts. A few monthS ago, if my memory serves me well, you indicated that you were working on writing a new book. How is that effort going? Could you give us a highlight of what may be in it? Hope it covers some of he new advanced techniques you have developed in recent years regarding dredging. Again, thanks, my hat goes off TO you and your key assistants. Best Regards, JAB
