My poorly baby
I took gix out for half an hour yesterday. He walked for 10 ins ran around for 10 mins (laid down twice) then went back on the lead. When we got home he just laid on the sofa and didn't move from 1115 until 5pm he didn't even get up for a wee or to eat and drink. Even after 5 he still wan't interested in anything and his eyes were red, and his lips were pale and his tongue blue :crying: I finally got him to eat by feeding him by hand at first.

Today he is back to his usual self - I think just a short trip round the block today although I know he'd want more.

I'm ringing the vet tomorrow to see if I need to ban all running around and just lead exercise now.

My poor boy - he'll hate that we'll have to steer clear of beaches and parks as he akways wants to run. Will see what the vet says but I think I know the answer. :ohwell:

Re: My poorly baby
I spoke to his specialist today. He said we know Gix best and are the only ones to decide what to do. He is a firm believer dogs should be allowed to run as they are happy then and we should let him love his life being happy. The beta blocker dosage can be changed in the future and he reminded me the disease will "catch up" with him. I agree - if Gix was kept on a lead he would be terribly unhappy if he is allowed to run we could suffer drastic consequences one day bit I know he would be happy when that happened so he will get one run a week and as soon as he lies down it is back on the lead. It might mean only 5 mins but at least it is 5mins

Poor Gixer! I totally agree though, dogs should be allowed to run and live. It may shorten his life span, but at least he would have fun and be happy. Big hugs to you all xxx

Re: My poorly baby
He's still getting very tired had a walk round the block tonight and his eyes get very red. He's still bouncy and himself though which is the important thing. It's such a shame as he's is a brilliant boy - he's given us stressful moments to say the least butit's been worth it! We only found out a year ago what was wrong and I think it is starting to catch him up now and we're having to realise what's coming one day - we always knew - but it seems more real now. Hopefully changing his beta blockers will help. All the time he is happy we are happy. The one run a week is what it will mean as I am not keeping him a prisoner. He still loves playuing with his toys and things he shouldn't - last night we had to chase him around the house as he ran off with a cushion  mainly because Brett was playing with our great neice and she was getting wound up so Gix decided to take the heat off her and onto him it was really nice to see him playing rough like that - fighting Brett so he couldn't get Katie Gix was really protective. It made him tired today but we all had fun.

Re: My poorly baby
He is indeed. He's been really poorly last couple of days (not his heart but a bad tummy!) but has known I've not been well today - had a migraine so he's spent all day laying on the bed next to me so I am ok.

Re: My poorly baby
Georgie, would it help you to talk to people in same situation? I can put you in touch with Kai's Mum and Dad if you want? They adopted Kai 2 years ago and he has quite serious cardiomyopathy - 3 out of 4 of his chambers are damaged.

Message me on Facebook if you want me to pass your details on - I don't come on here often enough (20 lashes as I speak!!)
