Dog Borstal
Did anyone see Dog Borstal on BBC3 last night at 10pm? Three dogs are sent to "borstal" with their owners for a week's intensive training with three different trainers/methods. Last night was a Jack Russel, Staffie and a Weimeraner (which acted so much like a boxer!!) It was quite good and it was great to see some of the training methods I use for Sasha being used on other dogs!

Anyway, next week's programme is being advertised as having a "lay-about" boxer on it (surely not??!!!)

BBC3 - Dog Borstal Dog Borstal - Rogues Gallery!

Set your times folks, definitely one worth watching!

Re: Dog Borstal
If you miss it, its on again at midnight on the same programme. I watched it last night and prided myself that Heskey really isnt that bad.........until today!! What an absolute pain he was when i took him out, i think he was watching the wiemeraner on last nights programme and thought that looked like fun! Needless to say i spent a large part of this morning standing in the rain bawling at him to come back (as he turns into a small dot on the horizon) Regardless, we have had stern words and he promises to behave this afternoon! (oh we live in hope)

Re: Dog Borstal
Shall we send Victoria Stillwell your way Liz, Heskey wouldn't dare disobey her and she could probably teach Mike a thing or two while she is there!!! The doggie dominatrix!

Love that programme "It's me or the Dog" - it's on tonight by the way, Ch4 at 8.30pm.

Re: Dog Borstal
I thought the JR trainer was a bit harsh on its owner. None of the other owners had to do press ups!

The Staffie had good results but I wonder what would happen if they ever let her off leash around other dogs. You can get them as good as that on leash.

As for the Weim, well I did think from the start that this was a big gambolling pup and part of what any gundog does is take its owner/s by the hand/arm and lead them about. He was a bit of a hooligon by all the jumping up and down but then most of us stop our pups from doing that long before 10 months. As regards the teeth marks he just hadnt learnt to be touch sensitive. In working circles you will hear them talking about a "hard" or "soft" mouth. A lot of the time folk dont realise that the big lolloping dog is really a big lolloping pup. Its a breed I admire and love!!

Thanks for the tip that its on again at midnight cos I would normally be watching something else at the earlier time which wasnt on due to the awards and also for the tip that "Its me or the dog" is on tonight at 08.30pm. I will tape it. Ive seen it a couple of times but again its on at same time as something else I watch.

Hey - do you think we will all be dog experts at the end of all these programmes!!

Re: Dog Borstal
Needless to say Heskey was an absolute treasure in the afternoon and a little bugger again this morning. I think he chooses the times when my arthiritis is playing up and knows i havent a cat in hells chance of chasing him!!

Did you see the bubble machine on "Its me or the Dog"???? Great isnt it. Im trying to get one for my little treasure but for some reason they are sold out! But i did find something called the Babble Ball. It evidently speaks to your dog when it plays with it...cant wait for it to be delivered, though i think i will probably enjoy it as much as Heskey!

Ps if you find Victoria Stillwell please tell her to call in (like now!!!)

Re: Dog Borstal
I think it was Heskey with brindle bits painted on, he certainly pulled the same faces!! I thought it was a shame too that they left before the end, cos i wanted to see what he could do.....wonder if Heskey fancies having a go at that (would i need to get fit to do it??????)

Re: Dog Borstal
Yes I thought the Lab owner was a bit OTT but she was okay in the end. JR's seem to be bit OTT. I thought it wrong to decide that the newer JR was top dog over the original one and to crate him. Think both should have time out in the crate. Wonder if either of them were neutered. Did it say? Think the owners had just decided to live with it at the end of it.

As for the Boxer - well, at 14 months what did they expect, hes only a baby. I wonder someone didnt tell them that before it got that far. I must admit I thought it a bit much to put a pup over 7ft jumps for his first time just to see if he could do it. I dont really blame his owners for leaving. Said at the end of it that one of them was now training to be a dog trainer and Zeb was doing agility. We dont really know what that trainer had in mind for Zeb for the test in agility.

Yes, you do need to be fit for agility - I would like to do it with Katie so I will have to tone up [a lot!! he he].

Re: Dog Borstal
I had to admit we were all killing ourselves laughing when Zebedy was chucking the scented blue fluffy thing around - it was so in character for a boxer, even the trainer just had to stand there and laugh.

I wondered how long he was left alone at home for to cause that much destruction? He was obviously just a young bored pup with two owners who didn't have a clue what a boxer was all about?

Great fun - more boxers on the telly I say!!

Re: Dog Borstal
We have had Boxers who wrecked - some just suffer terribly from seperation anxiety. Jodie would never have been left that long - hour at most but she could do a fair few things in that time. Maybe we were a bit "sad" but we used to think quite a lot of it was clever! I remember coming home one time to find my tapestry wool lining two flights of stairs. Tapestry was in the kitchen. She had got hold of a gold coloured pen and chewed it. In those days [eek telling my age] some were petrol based I think. You pressed the nib down to release the ink. Anyway her front paws and mouth were gold coloured. She had lay on my bed to chew it. Right through the covers and duvet, sheets and onto the mattress the ink had seeped. Mattress still has a gold impression on it - faded with time. We had to put bars on all the food cupboards or she would have helped herself. In fact in time she learned how to open the bars. Clever cookie!

Re: Dog Borstal
Boxers are so clever are'nt they, Zebedee was'nt that bad I don't think, then thats easy for me to say as my 3 really are on their best behaviour in our home, i was laughing my head off at Zebedee's antics just a typical boxer & a big one at that
