Sun Worshipping

The sun has finally managed to rise over the Scottish hills and we have had some fairly warm sunny days recently.

Of course with that comes a white boxer who likes to lie for as long as possible in any patch of sun she can find!!

Last year I tried putting suntan lotion on Sasha, but I found it stained her face and made it look mucky and she licked it off anyway! So I used to make her go indoors on the sunniest days during the hottest part of the day, and wouldn't take her to the beach with us etc etc.

I was wondering if any of you "older" Mums & Dads (by older I mean your babies not you of course!!!!) had any top tips on which sun screen to use on a boxer that WILL NOT lie in the shade!!

My vet told me that so long as they are covered with hair i.e. no pink skin showing, they shouldnt have any problems. Some dogs have very thin coats and it is those you have to be wary of. If she is really determined to lie in the sun, how about an umbrella shade - you can move them around or let her out for 5-10 mins and then bring her in.

My garden is too big to just let them loose to do as they please. It is fenced but as they can go out of sight I tend to either be with them or watching them so the problem hasnt arose ---- yet!

It worries me that after being in sun, her nose and eye lids etc are bright red! This always settles down over night though, but sometimes even her "bits" look sunburnt! I am not too sure about putting suntan lotion on that!

Even if I close the curtains in the dining room to stop her sunbathing, she just goes and sits between the curtains and the room! I cant win.
