Hi, bin a long time since we since we last posted, we've had so much going on lol.
Anyway over the last few weeks Duke and Carrigan have been fighting more regularly and Carrigan has the scars to prove just how bad the fights have been getting, Duke always seems to escape unmarked, last Sunday things came to a head after a fight, it took about seven hours before they settled down enough to be in the same room. Elaine told me she’d had enough and we decided that some action was needed, after quick phone call to Jacquie then a longer one with Lorraine it was decided that having Duke castrated as soon as possible would more than likely help. He was booked in for the 16th December. Today Carrigan and Duke went to the Vets for their injections, Carrigan was first and the Vet checked his wounds, after a discussion he decided that it would be better for him to have his injections rather than antibiotics for the wounds, but obviously we have to keep cleaning them and if there is any sign of infection he has to go back. Then came Dukes turn, he had his injection and check up and almost made it out of the door! We were waiting to pay and started talking about how he need castrating as soon as possible because of the fights and Elaine said it was a shame they couldn’t fit him in sooner, I said the 16th was only a couple of weeks away, at this point the nurse went and spoke to the Vet, who then came into the waiting room and asked when he’d last been fed, because they went to the Vets early this morning it was before we’d fed them so as well as his injection he ended up staying at the Vets and coming home this evening minus some parts! Hopefully over the next three or four weeks he’ll stop being such a bully. Rob, Elaine Xena, Duke and Carrigan |

Wow hope that works for you!! Was thinking about you all the other day and wondering how Carrigan was settling in. Has he stopped throwing himself on your younger visitors??!!
Poor Duke and Carrigan, and poor you for having to watch two dogs you love attack each other like that - must be so frightening! If Sasha even growls at another dog I panic! Fingers crossed that Duke will be a little less ready to have a go now that he is slightly less in tact! Good luck and let us know how it all goes!

Good luck - I hope it does make a difference for you.
I bet Duke wasn't too happy - I know Henry felt very sorry for himself after his op but he is such a loving dog. I think it is definately worth getting it done. Lets hope it does the trick.

Dukes now 14 months old, weighs in at just over 31kg and, as the Vet said, there's hardly an ounce of fat on him. Carrigan is about 2 years 8 months and weighs in at around 28kg, they are both about the same hight and I seem to remember Jacquie telling us Carrigan was big when we went to collect him.
When Duke got home from the Vets yesterday there was some snarling, I think Duke was trying to say I'm back, don't try anything!! We kept them seperated for a couple of hours and when they got together again they were all wagging tails and licking heads and ears, (this also happens after they've been fighting and settled down enough to make friends again although after a fight it also entails licking wounds as well!!). Xena doesn't seem to understand why Duke won't play at the moment but he is getting a bit more lively as the day goes on, how are you suppose to stop a young Boxer from bouncing around? lol He's back to the Vets in the morning for his post op check, I wonder if he'll be as happy to go as he was yesterday. GLAD TO HEAR THAT THINGS ARE GOING WELL. I BELIEVE THE "CHOP" WILL TAKE A WHILE TO BECOME EFFECTIVE. THE BODY NEEDS TIME TO FLUSH THE TESTOSTRONE.

Well things seem to be getting better, no 'real' fights since Dukes op, we've had a few 'leave me alone' growls but neither Duke or Carrigan have reacted by attacking each other.
Not only that but today Duke and Carrigan were actually playing together inside, something I’ve only seen them do on a couple of occasions before and always when they are outside running round the garden!! Rob, Elaine Xena, Duke and Carrigan |

Great news!! Now we know how to cure all that playground bullying too - we could market the perfect cure!!
Seriously though, the whole thing with Duke and Carrigan fighting must have been really upsetting for everyone, it's not nice to see our babies getting hurt or being aggresive, so I am glad to hear it all seems to have sorted it outself out! Hope times are far more peaceful for you now!

I suppose things were going a bit too well to soon, this evening Carrigan and Duke had another fight, not sure who came off worse – Carrigan, Duke or Me!!!!
I saw my chance to separate them and went for it but Carrigan lifted his head at the wrong moment and I found myself putting my hand into his mouth!!! Could’ve been worse though - luckily only one finger got trapped between his teeth fully so I’ve got one finger with a bite both sides and two others with slight nicks in. They didn’t half sting though when I cleaned them with some dettol. You would’ve thought I’d have learnt from the time Duke bit my arm a few months ago lol. Worse part is Elaine was out at the time so I ended up checking and cleaning Carrigan and Dukes wounds before bothering to check and clean mine – I knew I was slightly mad lol Still I’m still hopeful that over the next couple of months they will settle down – oh and I guess its back to the drawing board for the cure to playground bullying lol Rob, Elaine Xena, Duke and Carrigan |
