Hi Everyone
Katie is now 6 1/2 months old and has reached that "Terrible twos" age where she digs her feet in and says to herself - Im not going to do it and you arent going to make me, nah nah nah. She is such a sweetheart but can be so naughty as well. This all revolves round the fact that it is getting warmer and dryer and she just does not want to come in out of the garden. How many times have Boxer puppy owners been down this road........ My best ploy is to leave her to it, she cant understand this tactic and within minutes she is knocking on the backdoor and when I open it, she looks with head to one side "Come out and play mum" "Why arent you telling me to come in". Trying to keep a straight face I say to her, "Katie come" and in she trots. Arent they just so expressive ! K |

When we first got Sasha, she had been locked out in the house for long periods, so when she was in the garden she was NOT coming in!
When I tried to call her in she would charge around the garden growling and shouting at me!! To say I was concerned was an understatement!! Now she goes out, does her stuff and comes straight back in, especially if it is wet and cold! If we forget about her and she wants to come in, she shouts at us through the patio door!! Its such a pleasant change because now the back door can be open, and Sasha will be curled up in her bed in total confidence that life is great and she doesnt need to hide in the garden!! Her only continuous stubborn moment is when it is time to go on the lead at the end of her walk. As soon as I tell her to come she charges off and runs at least three large circles around me, before coming to my feet and sitting there as if to say - "ok - I say when it's over and it's over now!" Like you say, they are so expressive she just cracks me up sometimes!!! That's the best thing about boxers, they have such strength of character - unfortunately it means we have to have stronger characters just to keep on the ball with them!!! Sounds like you have the measure of Katie though!! Karen ![]() |

I can sympathise with you both! been there with the getting back on the lead thing and not coming in
![]() What I do if I want Blue to come in from the back garden is shut the door! Works every time. With Sasha all I have to do is call her and in she trotts.

My problem with getting Sasha in from the garden is going to start in the summer again.
I dont know about any of you, but I try and keep Sasha in during the hottest part of the day on the really sunny days. She sleeps in the sun all day long and I do worry about her burning. The problem is then shutting her in the hallway so she cant nip in and out the patio or back door to join us - she gets really upset about being shut out! If she would sit and let me put sunscreen on her it wouldnt be so bad - but its an absolute nightmare!! Any tips and hints for the summer guys?? Karen ![]() |

I like to sunbathe in our garden - we have the luxury of being un-overlooked (if there is such a word

When I mentioned this to the vet she said that we shouldnt have too much of a problem with Katie as her skin was well covered with hair, ie no bare bits but just to keep her in the shade. I dont know how that will work, any Boxers we have had have always been sun worshipers so I doubt she will be any different! Have to take it as it comes I guess. K

We put a big sun umberella up in the garden. Then put Blue's bed and water dish under it. It works for us. He is stil beside me but in the shade.

That sounds like a good idea - will that try it this year.
I am normally on the patio frying and Sasha has her "spot" near the fence where she can survey all that is happening! My last girl used to lie under my bed or in any shade she could find - Sasha is the opposite. Even if there is a single ray of sun on the living room floor she is in it!!! Karen ![]() |
