Water?

Peetie is so obsessed with water. He tries to get in the shower with me to drink the water, opens the toilets on his own, drags me to puddles, licks the sink faucet when i turn around. He will drink his water before he even looks at his food. Does anyone else's boxers LOVE water? Before we enter my bf's house we have to run around and close all the bathroom doors ( BC Peetie knows how to open the toilets) pick up the flower pots, and hide his dogs water bowl.

Today I left him with my BF for 1 hour-------Peetie drank all the water in the toilet and then had an accident. He hasnt had an accident in months------alothough i am sure its bc of the excess water and the BF did not catch his signals quite like mommy does.

Will he grow out of this water loving phase? When I go out i like to leave water for them, but Peetie drinks it the second the bowl hits the floor!

Re: Water?

 Sounds like an obsession to me!! :headbangers:

Bless him.

Mind you, on a cautionary note - is it worth getting him checked out to make sure he isn't dehydrating through something?

Re: Water?

The same thought entered my head.............. it could just be something and nothing Sara but it's always worth jst checking.

If you leave a full bowl of water down would he drink all of it in one go? If so I would be a little concerned as my two drink little but often, then again they eat when they need to as opposed to having set times, food is left down for them all day and they graze.

Do you feed peetie at set times and if so does he have a dried food? Do you moisten the food for him? If not is it worth trying as often dry food can be the reason that some dogs require lots of water.

Just my thoughts for what they are worth.................. he could just be a little monkey who just loves water and will grow out of it.

Regards

Paul

Re: Water?

If you dont want to take him to the vet get a sample of his urine and drop it into the vet and ask them to check it out. Excessive drinking and accidents point to something not quite right - usually a UTI or as more commonly known - cystitis.

Re: Water?

Peetie eats a mixture of dry food and wet food and yes if i leave an entire bowl of water he will drink it in one go,when I give him a bath he tries to drink the tub . He has been doing it since the day i brought him home----he has been to the vet for regular visits in which they have checked his urine. And the only time there is an accident is when Peetie has ingested way too much water and can not hold it. Maybe i should bring this to the vets attention

Re: Water?

Sasha does that after a walk on the beach. She drinks the Moray Firth, then drinks the equivalent when we get home - often leads to a flood on the carpet

Re: Water?

my previous boxer at one point could drink for england when i went to vets they did a wee test she had a water infection whihc lasted a month, they gave me the all clear then 7 days later i was back at the vets as she couldnt even stand up it turned out he kidneys were failing there was nothing they could do for her,so i suggest popping to the vet asap.
