For some reason we seem to go through diffrent fazes of boxers in the welfare. At Christmas all the dogs that came in were Red with Black Masks, then we went on to brindles , then whites. We are going through another faze of white boys, the last two have been white and I have a white girl coming in tomorrow. No I'm not keeping her! Too much like Sasha, she's also six but has some red patches. I'll put a photo on when I get her.

Going to Glasgow on Sun. Just for a wee lookie.
I had a better one than that last week, a man phoned to ask if we would rehome his female boxer. I went through the usauall questions.......wait for it......... she's 9, he has had her from a pup but she has tummors. His wife suffers from depression and could we find his dog a home? as the vet said she may have 6 months to a year left. It would be easier for him to give the dog up rather than nurse her. I said I would put her story on the web site with a photo but we didn't have anyone that would take on such an old sick dog. It was asking for heartbreak. He said he would send me a photo on Monday but I'm stil waiting.

Oh that is so sad!!
It sounds harsh, but if that is his attitude towards the dog, wouldn't it be better for the dog to have her put to sleep - rather than put her through all that stress when she is ill anyway and doesn't have long left??? If she has had a good life, why upset her now when she needs love and stability - not the heartbreak of being kicked out of the place she has known as home for the whole of her life??? Does that sound cruel?

Really what is at the "truth" of it all is the fact that they dont want [havent got] the money to spend on the dog.
I agree it would be easier for the girl to let her leave this life in peace rather than all the upset of a rehoming but they would have to do something about it whereas if they pass her on to someone else............. Helen |

So sad but true.
I did say to him I was worried that she would pine for him but it didn't seem to registar. I was going to ask him to pay her vets bills for the rest of her life but he never got back to me. We now have 6 weeks free insurance for the dogs, obviously its in the peoples best interest to keep it on, but they wont insure a dog over 8.

Perhaps the consideration is for the depressed wife, watching their baby (of nine years) deteriorate with no hope of a cure, would probably have a very profound effect on someone with depression.

I still think Helen is right, they are thinking about themselvs and not the dog - depression or no depression. You don kick out the kids when you get PND (unfortunately!!!)

Sorry karen got to disagree there, as someone who has suffered from depression for over 20yrs, people who are depressed are very difficult to cope with, plus this man`s beloved pet is basically dying, personally I would`nt part with her but I do understand his choice, he may find that his partner will be even more upset when the dog goes, there has been many a time it was only my dogs that kept me going through bouts of severe depression, I think it must be very difficult for this man, yvonne

Well let's just hope they make the right decision for all concerned. I know my hubby is always grateful of any distraction I have when I am depressed - like you say, sometimes it's only Sasha that I can relate to, humans are too tricky!
I wish them well, whatever, but I would love to see the girl left where she is and loved properly - I dont think abandoning her will help with the depression - guilt is never a good cure all!! Maybe he was just panicking - Jacquie says she hasn't heard back anyway? Fingers crossed it all works out well

I hope she stays where she is too karen, it would be tragic for her to be moved at her age and her health, i think dogs are very theraputic (excuse the spelling) i feel it for the family yvonne

I have to say I have never really suffered from depression, anxiety yes At one time I would have classed both as the "same" but having suffered from the latter last year after a bad time in work, realise there is a big difference.
At the other end of the scale, I know someone who suffered from depression for years. Eventually their husband took himself off, they got divorced not long afterwards and once she realised she was once and for all free of him, after a particularly bad patch of depression and being "totally" alone, she went out and got a dog which has totally changed her life and says much to her absolute amazement, she has never felt happier or complete and wishes he had left years ago! Oh, sorry - dont mean for anyone to dump their OH's. Dont be taking it the wrong way anyone!!! Helen |

Perhaps we are all right for certain situations. We know so little of this particular affair. We can only hope that all decisions are made wisely.(and what's the chances of that?)
