mess in the hall

As you know I hane Katie at the moment. 1 of her problems is she hasn't been trained. They people that had her's isea of training was to hit her.:smash6: anyway I left her for 3 hours with Blue yesterday (doggy mission) and all she had done was a pee at the back door. What a clever girl eh?
This morning I got a nasty surprise:bricks: news papers on the floor. Ok derek must have put them there before he left for work, as i pulled them up O'h no a big pile of runny poo! Just what I needed. So I cleaned it up. Then another pile of papers, it was just pee (not so bad). Then I went out the back, he had left the door open for her. O'h no my towels and dressing gown on the ground and covered in paw prints!!! and a tub of flowers been emptied.
What a busy little girl this morning LOL

Aaaah the joys Jacquie - bless her little socks. I am sure she will get better Jacquie with time and the correct training rather than a smack - what are people like, if anything physical abuse makes matters worse but the ignorance of people never ceases to amaze me.

Good luck with this one it sounds like you have your hands full!!!

Good luck, Paul

Just had hubby on the phone. He said he didn't have time to clean it up but had let her out the back garden. He had to leave her there as she wouldn't come back in. He said she looked really frightened. Poor wee thing!

Aww bless her! I took ages for Sasha to feel completely safe with us, the damage that is done in a few months can take even longer to undo!

I remember nearly crying the first time Sasha rolled over and showed me her belly - I felt so honoured!!

Poor wee Katie, she just doesnt have a clue does she! Well if anyone can teach her, it's you Jacquie! What price love eh.

Re: mess in the hall

Poor thing, imagine what Mair would be like if we gave her a good hiding every time she had an accident because she had not made it to the toilet or potty! She would be in nappies forever.

Lots of love and affection and rewards for good behaviour required by the sounds of it Jacquie - does she look frightened when it is you that is in the house and she has an accident? I wonder if the male of the house used to be the one dishing out the heavy hand?

It could be worse a bloke in the park yesterday was hitting his son of about 6/7 with a rolled up newspaper - hard!!! I think the stoney look that all the other parents were giving him made him realise that it was not acceptable behavour so he soon stopped - but you do question what goes on behind closed doors.

The worst Mair gets is the naughty corner and she hates it, what with that and my stoney look she knows she has crossed the line, she always comes out after a couple of minutes, apologises and then I give her a big hug (cutch in wales) and then explain why she must not do what she was doing and I have to say 98% of the time she is a real angel!!

I do not agree with physical / verbal agression towards anything or anyone, as not only does it, not resolve anything but it also sets an example to others that it is acceptable behaiour! I feel sorry for people who see it as a means to eductae / resolve issues although unfortunately the way we are raised as children can often instill the wrong values and communication tools required to deal with what life throws at us.

Anyway going off at a tangent on this one.

Take care, Paul

Re: mess in the hall

Ah the age old discussion on discipline!

Poor Katie sounds as if that is something she is probably an expert on - if only she could tell what happened to her! It's so hard when you are trying to undo someone's bad work, you will be getting along nicely and then one innocent mistake could set you back months! I remember how much more confident Sasha was getting with us when we were out walking her until one day we wore gloves and she went nuts! Obviously she had been hit by someone wearing gloves (makes sense considering her age and when she was born). Even now she is a bit dubious if we have gloves on and always trys to pull them off, but at least she doesnt cower from them!

Like you Paul, my youngest (6) hates her punishment and it is generally a "naughty stair" We also have tick charts to help her learn what is good and what's not, although I have to admit that we are on a cross chart right now because the bad behaviour was outweighing the good behaviour. Watching those crosses mount up and knowing she would lose a precious possession has turned the behaviour round in a week - why bother smacking them, all she would have learned is fear!

Kids, dogs, husbands it's all the same theory - treat them with kindness and love and you will get it back - TENFOLD!

Re: mess in the hall

When I came in yesterday after leaving her a few hours she had piddled but wet herself ( a wee bit) She was reallly happy to see us though.
I think the guy in the girls life was heavy handed but she told me she had "footed her arse" on a couple of occasions. I really had to bite my tounge.
Blue has really picked up alot as well since she came. I think she will learn more from him than us. He'll let her know were not the hitting type.
She was also ment to be distructive but I havent seen any evidence of that yet.

Re: mess in the hall

Sasha being destructive was the main reason the woman was getting rid of her - that and the fact that she had accidents every night.

We had no accidents for ages, and only get them now if she is unwell (or has drunk the Moray Firth!!)

Other than the odd bit of naughty boxerness and bowls of chocolates disappearing she hasn't been destructive at all.

I think the problem is, people get boxers and just dont have a clue what they are taking on!! These babies need entertaining and like anyone, if they are bored they look for something to do. I bet they wouldnt leave their two year old child in a room with no toys and then shout at it when it chewed the carpet!

Katie did so well not having any accidents while you were out and asking to go out last night!! She must be starting to feel more secure and at home now Jacquie - time (and Blue) will teach her what's right, she is such cute wee thing!

Re: mess in the hall

She is so much better even just in a few days. When she first came you couldn't lift your hand without her cowering or shooting off. We are makeing progress. It's just such a shame to think what kind of stsrt she has had in life. Yet she is such a good wee thing, she loves getting cuddles and is following me around like a wee lost lamb.
the other side of that is Blue is secure and knows he is loved. He is letting her be spoilt, as if he knows she needs more reasuring and he doesnt.
We make a fuss of Blue, he is such a good boy letting all these dogs come in and share the affection . But he is secure and knows he'll always be loved. Does that make sence? I know what I'm trying to say but sometimes I'm not too great at putting it down in words.

Makes perfect sense!! Blue feels safe, secured and loved and he knows that Katie needs to feel that too, so he doesnt get jealous of her at all if she gets the attention he does. He knows how much you all love him already, which just goes to prove what a great job you do with all these babies Jacquie!!!

He such a big heart bless him!

Jacquie it sounds as if both you and Blue have fallen in love with her.

What chance has your hubby got now???????

Definately sounds as if she just needs love and reassurance and i am sure she already knows that she will get it with you.

You just HAVE to keep her now!!!!

batteries re charged!!!!

We have had 2 dry nights YIPEEEEEEE

I was back to the Vet last night though. Katie has lost just over a Kilo since Thursday. She is still produceing gunk rather than poo's. The vet is going to send a sample off to the lab but it will take 7 days to get a culture. She has put her on some anti infametary tablets just now. She's not sure if she has a tummy bug or something more sinister going on. I'll just have to weight and see. Other than that she's doing brilliant. She's playing with Blue and the boys, Just loves Ceilidh and is full of the joys. I'm working on Derek but it will take time. Keep fingers crossed!

Bless her little socks - lets hope its nothing to sinister it sounds like she could do with a break in life! By the sounds of it she is fitting in really well with the clan Jacquie.

You will have to start playing a tape recording to Derek whilst he sleeps with a simple message "must keep katie, katie deserves a good home" I'm sure that if the message was played on a 4 hour loop he would soon come around or alternatively be transformed into a zombie!!

Good luck Jacquie, Paul

It sounds like shes settling in Jacquie - she knows where shes well off! Im sure she will eventually recover from her last owners. Unfortunately when we got Jake he had a deeply instilled lack of trust of just about anyone although he took to me and Mike real quick. Up until he died he still wouldnt let any strangers anywhere near him and would run and hide. Some people either dont think or dont care about the damage that they do. Im glad Katies with you cos she'll soon learn what its like to be loved and secure.

Re: mess in the hall

she has a slight bug in her tummy. Anti biotics for 10 days. She hasn't lost anymore weight but hasn't put any on either. At least she hasn't lost!!!
She ate 4 defrosting chicken breasts the other day. Clever girl left the plastic bag though! You know she was neither up nor down! Then a couple of nights has a swig of my vodka that was lying on the floor. Cheeky wee devil. You forget about these kind of things, Blue wont touch anything unless he's told he can. I forget she's stil a pup!!

O'h I do hope so.

This is a mad house just now, and Derek was adamint he did not want to have 2 dogs again. Mind you the longer she's here the better! So I'm biteing my tounge at the moment. She's stil on her antibiotics and may need an op to her eyes. It could be looking good!
Her lower lashes grow in to her eyes, It's not a big op but it would make her more comfertable.

That's fairly common isn't it Jacquie, in a lot of breeds?

I did notice that Katie hasn't appeared on Boxer Welfare yet!!! Like you say - it's looking good!!

Glad her tummy is settling down

Re: mess in the hall

Jacqui - I had one of my little griffons [many years ago] operated on for entropian. You are right it does make them more comfortable but hope she does not have to have that done. Katie has the typical [our Katie I mean] droopy eyes at the moment. One vet we saw recently said she may need an op for that but I never took him up on it as more often than not when adults the droopy Boxer eyes will correct themselves, well to be honest, I didnt have one that didnt correct itself.

Im keeping my fingers crossed for you that she stays put.
