London - Everyone Ok?

Just wondering if everyone is ok after London. I only know of Caroline who lives there, so please let us know you are ok Caroline!!

Hope no-one else was involved? What a terrible situation for everyone to be in - takes me back to the 70's and I didn't really think we would be witnessing this kind of thing again. Very sad

Totally agree Karen. I'm just wondering if this is the "start" of more trouble wider spread. I hope not

Horrific, words cant describe it. Bombs set to go off when the capital is packed with workers going to work. We dont need another Sept 11th. How can one human being set out and plan to do something like a masscare on this scale.

Re: London - Everyone Ok?

Hi Karen

I am ok thanks, Brendan actually works as a driver for London underground, luckily he wasn't working yesterday morning. He had to go into work last night to help move all the trains back to the depots etc as they were all abandoned where they were..... in tunnels etc.

He was at work for seven hours last night and only moved three trains as they had to get sniffer dogs etc onto each train before it could be moved to check for any more explosives.

When he went into work he was taken into central London on a minibus and they actually passed the bus that was bombed, he said it was not a very pleasant sight.

I didn't want him to go into work last night as you don't know if it is all over and done with, but he assured me that he wouldn't do anything unless he was 100% sure that it was safe.

I spoke to my sister yesterday morning and she had been in a panic as her daughter who is eight was due to be going on a school trip into central London on the tube. They were due to leave the school at 9.10am, luckily they found out about it before they got on the tube. She said she was trying to phone the school and it was engaged for ages, when she finally got through the secretary answered the phone by saying "Its okay they didn't go - they are all safe" She must have had so many worried parents calling to find out.

My mum was in hospital in The Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel and the hospital phoned my brother to see if he could collect her as they needed the beds. He had to drive from Walthamstow into Central London and a journey that usually takes 25 minutes took him 2 hours, he said it was chaos and quite spooky as there were so many emergency services trying to get to the stations. He said all you could hear was sirens the whole time.

I feel so sorry for all the people that did get caught up in it all and those who lost their lives - just innocent people trying to get to work, and the day after London was celebrating winning the olympic bid as well.

I am just so glad that Brendan wasn't working yesterday morning as Kings cross was the worst hit station and he drives through there several times a day when he is working.

We knew it was going to happen at some time but it still came as such a shock when it did happen.

At least it didn't happen on the same scale as America and we didn't lose as many lives. It could have been so much worse....

Caroline, Tia, Kirei and Henry Monster xxxx

We live on the outskirts of London but even there the atmosphere was very different to usual, the roads were very quiet and everyone just seemed so shocked.

Re: London - Everyone Ok?

Just glad you are and yours are safe and sound Caroline and thanks for letting us know.

It's just so sad that London and Britain has had to face this kind of terrorism on our own doorsteps again, something I thought I would never see again - the images of the Hyde Park bombings and all those poor horses is still with me today.

Like you say Caroline, it was expected and we knew it was coming - but I dont think the world will ever witness another Sept 11 - I think we have too much insight into these terrible peoples minds and workings now!!

I just cannot understand any human being who can carry out atrocities such as this against their fellow men, no matter what colour, creed, political persuasion, or in fact any difference whatsoever, exists between them. :screams:

Oh Helen I hope you get good news. My old boss finally phoned me yesterday afternoon as I had left a message on his mobile. He had been in the train behind the one at Aldgate and said it had been pretty scarey, although he knows just how lucky he was!

Fingers crossed for you Helen. I think the main problem is that if people are in hospital, of course they cannot use mobiles etc so there's a lot of people uncontactable.

Re: London - Everyone Ok?

Hi Everyone

Glad to hear that you and yours are well Caroline - I was in London on Wednesday and back their tomorrow (Monday) so feel lucky to have not had appointments in London on Thursday. Whilst I may have been lucky it is very sobering to think of the people that were killed / injured or still missing.

I can only imagine the agony and pain their relatives must be going through at this time - our thoughts and prayers are with them all! Whilst I hope the perpetrators of these truly awful attacks are captured and suitably punished unfortunately I doubt it will be of any consellation to those who have lost a loved one or been injured.

I am sure we have all felt many different emotions over the past few days ranging from anger, sadness, relief, fear, empathy and sympathy for all those touched and involved in the bombings. I only hope that the british public can continue to go about their business and lives as best as is possible to prove to the bombers that we will not be beaten or intimidated by them!! Hopefully everyone will become more vigilant regarding safety on public transport and in public places so as to reduce the chances of this ever happening again.

Hope everybodies friends and relatives have now been in touch.

Take care all, Paul

I believe Birmingham was on alert yesterday, but havent heared any more. I cant believe that this kind of thing is happening and that one person could do this to another. Its a sad week for all those and their families that have been involved.

Shocking truth of the bombers, they were British born, the enemy within, my heart goes out to the victims families and the families of the bombers who apparently had absolutely no idea what thier sons were up to, I sincerely hope they do not become victims of race related crimes, there was a debate on BBC1 last night with Nicky Campbell did any of you see it?

Didnt see the programme. We dont have much of a multi cultural community in Carlisle, but already the people from other cultures are experiencing problems. I think its terrible, as it shouldnt make any difference what colour your skin or what religeous beliefs you hold. Unfortunately there will always be extreemists who make life horrendous for everyone else. And there will always be idiots who jump onto the bandwagons, and cause even more distress.

Peebles is the same Liz, I just hope people realise that these terrorists use "thier" religion as an excuse, the Koran is just like any other religious bible, similar morals etc and it is the minority of Muslims who think like the extremists, Holy war my ass- many wars/attrocities etc have been done for centuries in the name of religion it was wrong then and it is wrong now

Re: London - Everyone Ok?

Mr brother-in-law is Turkish and a muslim and my sister-in-law has converted to be married to him.

When they were up last summer we had a long chat about the Koran and it was really interesting. It is basically a list of instructions to maintain a healthy and happy lifestyle. Leaving shoes & animals outside promotes cleanliness etc etc. Unfortunately there are some who take it to extremes, but that is the same with every religion, even Christianity has its fanatics. As long as there is religion there will be conflict, but if there were no religions people wouldnt have a raft to cling to and conflict would break out. Catch 22.
