Would anyone like to sponsor me?

On Saturday night i will be taking part in the Playtex Moonwalk.
It is a sponsored 26.2 mile powerwalk around London. (26.2 miles being the same distance as the London Marathon)
It starts at midnight and there are approximately 15,000 people taking part - all have to complete the walk in decorated bras - It is to raise money for a breast cancer charity (Breakthrough Breast Cancer) and is sponsored by Playtex (hence wearing a bra).
I have spent the last three and a half months training for this and completed a 20 mile powerwalk last Saturday.
I am hoping to complete the course in approx 6 to 6.5 hours.
This is the first time i have entered anything like this and i am suprised to say that i have really enjoyed the training. Me and exercise do not normally go together but it seems i have found something i actually like doing!!!! I have also lost nearly a stone in weight since i started as well which i am very happy about. I understand there is also a Moonwalk in Edinburgh this year for the first time ( The London one has been going for several years now).
Because i have been training for this i am not too bothered about the actual walk, however as it is through the night i know i am going to be completely exhausted as I am so use to going to bed early and getting up early - at the time i need to be on my way to Hyde park to start the walk - i would normally be in bed!! I am going to have to do my very best to stay up late tomorrow night so that i can have a lie in on Saturday.
I will be taking my camera with me and will get plenty of photographs and if anyone would be kind enough to sponsor me i will even get a photo of me in my decorated bra with my medal at the end and post on the site.

I have already recieved sponsors from family, friends and colleagues at work and have managed to raise £175 so far.
I do not have a web sponsor page but if you would like to sponsor me - email me at ccazzz@aol.com and i will give you all the details - cheques or postal orders can be made out directly to the charity and i would really appreciate any amount - no matter how small.

Many thanks

Re: Would anyone like to sponsor me?

Thank you very much Karen.

I have sent you my address and the details for the cheque.

And now i will have to keep my side of the bargain and post a picture of me in my decorated bra.......Damn!!!!

Its all for a good cause and i am sure we all know someone who has had cancer at some point. My mum had cervical cancer a few years back and luckily it was caught early and they managed to get rid of it but without all the charities raising money a lot of people would not be so lucky.

Thanks again

Will you have Boxer company along the coarse?

Re: Would anyone like to sponsor me?

Thank you Paul & Jill - all sponsors are greatly appreciated. I am at work at the moment but when i get home this afternoon i will check my emails and send you the details. Yes i do have a paypal account Paul (due to my previous addiction to ebay)!!!!and i hadn't even thought of that. If i had thought of it earlier i would have set up a web sponsor page but i left it a bit late to decorate my bra and am still adding the finishing touches!!!

Thanks again

Re: Would anyone like to sponsor me?

Forgot to say - unfortunately i won't have a boxer with me whilst doing the walk I don't think everyone else would appreciate boxer slobber all over their legs whilst walking - (strange people - I don't know what it is like not to have boxer slobber everywhere!!!)

If it were allowed i would certainly consider it - Kirei would be the one - she is the most calm and would just trot along happily by my side, however it is a human only walk and no dogs are allowed!!!

Never mind!

Jill I have sent you an email with the paypal details and also my address so you can do it whichever way you want.

Paul i have sent you a personal message through the site.

Sorry i didn't get back to you yesterday afternoon - couldn't get hubby off the computor!!!

Thanks again - I have now reached my target of £200 thanks to the sponsors i have recieved from The White Stuff members.

Tried having a lie in this morning but it just didn't happen!!! I am hoping that by lunchtime i will be able to put a DVD on and lie down on the sofa and fall asleep - (I always fall asleep when i try watching DVDs)

I am really looking forward to it now - although i know i will be suffering with my legs & feet tomorrow!!

Sorry that i missed sponsoring you....is it too late? How did you get on? We are doing the race for life next month also in aid of breast cancer (though i have to say on my part it will more likely be the limp for life depending on how my arthritis is!!)

I to am sorry to have missed sponsoring you, still happy to give you a donation if you let me know how.

Liz, you and I can wabble round together although my difficulties will be the result of excessive drinking the day before as its Annan Gala and I never miss a chance to go back over the border for some good old fashioned pipe band music and copious amounts of alcohol!!!!!

Re: Would anyone like to sponsor me?

I completed the Moonwalk on Saturday night - all 26.2 miles of it - but I am really suffering now!!!

The atmosphere was amazing - it was like one big party to start off with - there was an enormous pink tent set up in Hyde park and they had singers and bands on stage. I arrived at Hyde park at about 9.00pm and my walk started at 11.35pm. They started 5000 people at a time and it took about 20 minutes to even get past the start line. The first few miles were really easy and they had closed off roads and the police were stopping traffic in other places. All the cars were tooting their horns and everyone on the buses were waving and people were cheering us on along the street. Then at about 8 miles everything came to a complete standstill!! Apparently they had changed the route from the year before and we were walking along the south side of the Thames but it was a very narrow path in some places and you could only get two or three people through at time. It took over an hour to get through this section but people were leaning out of their flats keeping us entertained - there was one guy with a drum and he got everyone singing - (I bet he is not very popular with his neighbours now)!!

After we got past this section it all got moving again and we were walking through Battersea park when the sun came up. By this time everyone was getting really tired and it also started to rain - only drizzle but it had been dry up until this point.

I had had enough after 17 miles and really had to force myself to go on for the last nine. Everyone was hobbling along together though and that is what kept me going. I had blisters on the soles of my feet from the 17 mile point but i refused to stop as i would never have got going again! I spoke to Brendan when i was at 21 miles and i really wanted to just sit down and cry with the pain in my feet! Even today (Monday) my toes and ankles feel really bruised, most of the blisters have gone down but there is one more that is really sore. My joints - hips and knees are also sore and i have to walk down the stairs one step at a time or they feel like they will give way!!! But i am going to do it again next year definately!!!

It took nine hours in total - due to the people jam at mile 8 and queing for the toilet around the route. I was keeping check of my actual walking time on my stopwatch and i was walking for 6 hours and 53 minutes. Slower than i had hoped but those last few miles hobbling along really slowed me down.

I had also entered one of the race for life events in July but i have decided i have done my bit for charity this year and i am having a rest!! ( i am going to carry on with the walking as it is helping me to lose weight). One of my ambitions in life was to run the London Marathon - but i have changed my mind - walking 26 miles was bad enough - let alone running it!!!!

Whilst i was walking i heard people saying that they hadn't done much training and i saw quite a few people give up after only about seven miles. Hopefully if i carry on with the walking i will find it a lot easier next year - although i think what makes it even harder is the fact we were walking through the night when we should have been sleeping.

Good luck Amanda and Liz on your race for life - let us know how you get on - you can still make a donation if you wish to my fundraising i will send you both a personal message with the details. Likewise let us know when you are collecting sponsors for yours and i will be happy to sponsor you.

Ok I have left it long enough!!

Here is a picture of me before i left for the moonwalk in my decorated bra. I should soon have a picture from the finishing line - they were taken by photographers at the event but i am waiting for them to be uploaded to the Moonwalk website.

There are more pictures in my photobucket, however most of them are quite dark - well it was the middle of the night!! And my favourite picture - of the finish line!!!!

Go to my photobucket album at http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v445/cccazzz to see the other photos.

Once i get the finish photo i will also post that.

Thank you once again to everyone who has sponsored me.

Cool bra Caroline!

You couldn't have missed the finished line really could you - all decked out in pink like that!

I forgot to ask - did you see anyone famous? I know Nell McAndrew has done it in the past - watched it on telly once.

Wouldn't the Escort have gone down well at this event.
And I'll bet Gingerboy is jealous of the Subaru anorak.

I did see Lorraine Kelly and Beverly Craven on the stage but no-one famous whilst i was walking. I am useless at recognizing people anyway. Quite often i have been with people and they have said look over there that is so and so and i wouldn't have had a clue if they hadn't pointed it out!!

The escort is certainly the right colour for any breast cancer event - however with the event starting in Hyde Park i had to leave it at home as parking is always an issue in London!!!!!!!!

Thank you very much for your cheque Karen, I received it yesterday - loved the card - very fitting!!! Thank you also for your kind words regarding Tia and don't worry i will definately give you a shout if i need any advice. Tia is pretty much back to herself now. If she does have any more fits though we will be straight back to the vets.

Thank you also to everyone else who sent cards along with their cheques. It has been very kind of you all. Its looking like i should collect £260 in sponsorship now - well above my £200 target which i though i was struggling with at one point.

The Subaru has gone now - third child dictated some common sense so the money is in the bank and Lynne has a little Alfa 147 to run around in :ohwell:

I do miss the car but at the end of the day at least I can say I owned one and most certainly enjoyed it :jump: Who knows once the kids are in scholl and we are no longer paying £1200 per month in nursery fees maybe we will have another.

Only 7 weeks till our third is due now
