All on my Lonesome

It's just me and my babies for the next 10 days:sad:

Brendan has gone to America - he has always had a dream of visiting America on his own since he was a child. He wants to go and see some American wrestling shows - (of which i have absolutely no interest). He recieved a backdated pay rise last month of 1500 and he asked me if there was anything i wanted to do with the money or to just out it into savings. We then got talking about his childhood dream and i said to him why not use the money to do that. He was quite suprised that i suggested it but also really happy as he said he had always thought of it as something he would probably never get round to doing.

Anyway his flight left this morning at 9.00am and now i'm all alone.

We have always given each other the freedom to do whatever we want - we don't always need to keep tracks on each other like so many other people i know but it will be strange as in the 8 and a half years we have been together we have never really been apart for more than one night.

Probably sounds like nothing to some of you - especially Karen whose Hubby was away regularly but this is something new for me.

I am looking forward to the house staying tidier and letting all three dogs sleep on the bed with me every night :rofl:but i will miss him loads:loveya:

I know i will have this site & UKBD to keep me company though:wave: - and i will be back at work on Monday:ohwell:

I am sure he will have an excellent time and i made him promise loads of pressies for me:banana:

Oh well - off to laze around in my pyjamas all day and have lots of cuddles with my babies. then i'm off out for an Indian with my sister tonight - with a few bottles of wine:jump:

Aww Caroline, what a wonderful relationship you both have. I bet he will have a ball out there and miss you everyday - definitely sounds like a chance to get loads of pressies!!

Yes my hubby is away alot (due to be away for most of this summer actually) but that doesn't mean I miss him any less when he has away for a weekend or two months.

It's a good sign to miss them, renews the love when you are reunited :blowkisses:

I was going to ask how you manage when he is away Karen but people ask me that about how i cope with Brendans shift work. There are weeks when i get home 10 minutes before he is leaving for work and that could be all we see each other for for a week at a time. It is different from him being away totally though. I am used to his shifts as it is all i have ever known and its proabably the same with you.

Your hubby has probably always been away for periods at a time so its what you are used to and it is easy to accept.

I will be fine anyway, Brendan reckons Henry arranged it all so that he can have me to himself for the 10 days. I think Henry has realised that Brendan has gone somewhere though as he saw his case this morning and Henry hasn't left my side since. Kirei and Busta don't seem to have noticed anything.:jump:

Re: All on my Lonesome

Brendan arrived safetly - He phoned me at 1am this morning - he forgot about the time difference  Normally he would have me to remind him about that kind of thing). He said he would have phoned earlier but he thought he would get himself settled first and didn't realise it was so late here.

Trouble was i went out for an Indian with my sister last night and drunk almost two bottles of wine to myself so i wasn't really with it what with being woken up as well!!

He seems to be enjoying himself already though - he wants to see the real America - not all the touristy places. We are planning on going to New York together soon so he is not allowed anywhere near there this time.

He is staying in North Carolina at the moment and is planning on travelling around Atlanta, Georgia & Charlotte.

I thought i would get a nice lie in this morning, the dogs woke me up at 6am playing so i called out to them to go back to bed which they did and then just before 7am there was a knock on the door - guessing it was the postman with a parcel i jumped up only to find a woman walking out of the gate saying sorry i think i have the wrong house. That was it once i was up there was no way the dogs were going to settle again so there goes my lie in:thud:

Think i will get on with cleaning out the rats and parrots cages and do the vaccuming and dusting then have a relaxing afternoon instead:loveya:

You'll be fine Caroline, Henry wont let you be lonely! :flowerkiss:

I just keep myself busy when hubby is away, I pretend he is either on days or nights and that he is at work!!

I normally get a bit blue after two weeks away, but then get my head down and get on with it. Trick is not to look forward to them coming home until 3 days before hand!

Re: All on my Lonesome

I'm starting to get really worried now. Brendan called me on Wednesday night when he arrived, but as he woke me up and i wasn't really with it we didn't talk for long and he said he would call me during the day on Thursday. I havent heard from him since.I have tried calling his mobile but it just goes through to answerphone each time.
I have sent him loads of texts but still no response. If he has lost his mobile i am sure he would have called the house phone - I havent been out of the house all weekend just incase he calls.
I have checked the O2 website for coverage in the US and the coverage isn't brilliant, but again i think if that had been the problem he would have used a payphone to call me.
The thing is as he is travelling around i have absolutely no idea where he may be. All i have is his flight information. I have a rough idea of the places he wanted to visit and i know he started out in North Carolina. I have just been looking for details of hospitals in North Carolina incase he has had an accident but there are so many of them i just don't know where to start. I really don't know what to do - I am supposed to be going back to work tomorrow and we have a really important audit this week which we have been working towards since January but i know i won't be able to concentrate on anything if i have not heard from him.
Brendan quite often leaves his phone switched off so that isn't really the problem it is more the fact that he hasnt called. Before he left i did say to him you don't have to call every day but he said he would call at least every other day and he knows i would worry if i had not heard from him. I don't want to contact his mum just yet either as i don't want to worry her unneccesarily.

I just don't know where to start trying to find out any information or if i should leave it a bit longer.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: All on my Lonesome

Ok, my advice for now would be to relax a little. If he is travelling around a) he could have no coverage and b) he might not be able to get to a phone or even have change.

I often find that, when my hubby hasn't phoned for ages and I tell him how much I was worried, he always says "why"? I don't think men get this worrying thing and Brendan probably isn't even thinking about it.

If you are still stressing, why don't you try and phone the Police out there, they will surely know if a Brit has been involved in any accidents/incidents.

Try not to worry, I am sure he will phone you when he remembers! :zen:

Thanks Karen

I have spoken to Brendans mum as i just did not know what to do but now i have worried her too. He still hasn't phoned. It is just so hard not to think the worst.

She has suggested waiting until tomorrow to see if he phones tonight and then maybe trying to contact the British / American embassy. If i try phoning anyone at the moment i will just start crying - i did when i called her.

I don't know what to do though as i am supposed to go back to work tomorrow. I know it could be some really simple reason why he hasn't called but what if its not?

I was so happy that he was going to achieve his dream from when he was younger and now i wish i had been an overprotective wife and not let him go.

Thanks for your advice - it is nice to know that i can get support from here when i need it.

I was going to suggest the British Embassy, but I didn't know if there was one in each State?

Maybe the State Police would be a good place to start :dunno:

I know it's easy enough to say, but try not to worry. When hubby was in Iraq last year I was panicking if he didn't phone every day (he was only there for three) sometimes this modern technology is more of a curse than a saviour! When it fails, it leaves us thinking the worse!

Caroline..I know its hard but please try not to worry. I hate to think of you sitting there thinking what i know you will be thinking.....Men are not very reliable in keeping in touch...The time differance will be throwing him aswell. He most probably tries to phone and realises its the wrong time and when it is the right time for you it will be wrong for him....I had that problem with trying to keep in touch with my hubby when i was over there. Then I was always doing stuff and simply forget to phone. When he does phone and you have told him off you will be able to laugh with him about this when he comes home......

Thanks Carol & Karen

I just can't help thinking all the 'what ifs'. I've just had a text from his mum and i have decided that i am going to try to go to work tomorrow. Hopefully it will take my mind off it ( I doubt it - but worth a try. I can always come home if it gets too much).

If i have still not heard from him by tomorrow afternoon i will take all the information i have got this evening - phone numbers etc to his mums house and we can start making some phone calls together.

I really wish he would just get in touch in some way or another. Phone, email, text - I don't care i just want to know that he is ok.

It would be her husband who might know as he still goes over to N.Carolina a lot with his job PM me on UKBD would be easier if you need to.

Re: All on my Lonesome

Karen & Carol

Thank you so much for your support last night. I was really really worried. I have still not heard from him but I am feeling quite a lot better today what with what you both said and I have also spoken to some people at work. One woman i work with - her daughter went to America last year and she said exactly the same thing happened. She didn't hear from her for a week and when she got back she said that her mobile wouldn't work and she couldn't find a payphone that was working.

I suppose if you think about it there are a lot less payphones around everywhere now compared to what there used to be as everyone has mobiles now. The bloke who i share an office with also said that when he went to Las Vegas last year the only way he could phone his wife was from the hotel room. Brendan is staying in cheap accommodation so there are probably no phones there.

I have just spoken to Brendans mum and i asked her that if i have not heard from him by Saturday when his flight is due if she will come to the airport with me just incase there is anything wrong so that i am not there on my own.
Does anyone know if it is possible to check if someone has checked in for their flight or whether that is confidential? I have the airlines number so i can give them a ring.

There is still a nagging little thought at the back of my mind that something is just not right but compared to how i felt last night i am a lot more positive now.

Thanks again for all your support. Now Brendan had better watch out when he gets home because he is in big trouble:vangry:

Thats great that you are feeling a little better today.Have been thinking about you all day....I,m not sure if the airport will give you that info but if you still havent heard anything by the time he is due to leave you can always try....maybe you can get them to put a tannoy message out and call him to a courtesy phone for you....I am sure he will ring before then... Keep us informed take care

Glad to hear you are feeling a lot better. When you are on your own, your mind can play tricks on you. It's much better when you can get out and speak to folk - somehow problems seem to disappear with the words of others.

Don't know about flight information, but it is always worth a try.

Enjoy your week and look forward to being spoilt when he comes home!! :cheering::cheering::cheering:

Re: All on my Lonesome

Thanks again both of you. I think it was partly the fact that i was indoors on my own with the dogs over the weekend and just thinking about it with no-one to talk to that made it worse.

Also it doesn't help that i am halfway through reading the Joanne Lees book 'No turning back' about her and Peter Falconio in the Australian outback. What a time to be reading about a murder.:ohwell: Thing is it is such a good book i just can't stop reading it.

Brendan had better have plenty of presents for me when he gets back. I had a laugh about it on the phone to his mum and she said he is probably stuck in the desert somewhere with the tumbleweeds. He's in trouble with her too for getting me so worried. Good job he won't be reading this or he may not want to come back.:worried:

I am going to spend the evening having a nice long hot bath, getting takeaway for dinner, then using my chocolate fondue set that i got as a birthday present from one of the girls at work and then i am going to have all three dogs up on the sofa with me to watch ALL of the soaps - to make up for the horrible weekend i have had.

Carol there would be no point asking them to put out a tannoy message - he never takes his ipod headphones out of his ears when he is on his own:ugone2far:

And maybe if he does call i won't answer to let him know how it feels ( As if )!!!!!:pokingfun:

Just got home from work and had an email from Brendan:banana:

He said he has busted his phone and couldn't work out the dialling codes to call me on the house phone. :dunno:
I am sure he could have found out if he really tried:ugone2far:

I have just emailed him the numbers with the dialling codes so he can't get it wrong and he said he will call me as soon as he gets the email. He had better.

I told him a bit about how worried i have been but i didnt want to sound like i was moaning so i will wait until he gets home to have a real go at him. I have told him that i now need at least double the presents for all the worry:worried:

I know everyone told me he would be okay but i feel so much better now that i have heard from him. Now i can look forward to all the pressies when he gets back on Saturday:veryexcited:
