AC on to WC Fox/Audi trans | |
I had an idea for a kit build - use a Fox or other FF longitudinal VW trans - but if the WC didnt fit or I wanted AC, to mount a 1.6 or some other on to it. The Brazil Foxes used to come like this - does anyone know if they will bolt up without modification (IE are the patterns the same or did they change with the WC)?

They are the same and will fit but It has been my experience that these models often have subtle differences depending on were they were made (brazil,Mexico) and for some reason mexican made has better durability and brazilian, more variety. questions welcome

The big problem you must first overcome is the rotation of the trans. In the traditional REar engine configuration you would have to reverse the rotation. Because the trans case is not semetrical like the early Air Cooled cars you can not simply swap the differential to the other side. I am using the 4000 GT trans in my 54' but it will be mid engined. BTW, the bellhousing is diferent.

the fox 4 and 5 speed trannys are not very tough. there are a number of audi trannys that will bolt into a fox. this would be a way better option and the audi trannys have way better gearing. you have to rev the hell out the fox 4 speed because 2nd gear is so tall.
