Lowering the rear.

Someone told me that all you need to lower the rear of a (standard) bug is a socket and ratchet. Apparently you unbolt a piece, change its positioning and reinstall the part you removed.

Anyone heard of or done this? Instructions and or pics?

I am NOT a suspension guy so I am in the dark a bit here.

Re: Lowering the rear.

It's easy, but also confussing. 1st jack the rear of the car high enough for both rear wheels to hang freely, remove both rear wheels, and remove the springplate covers. Depending on if your pulling your rear torshion bars out, you may also need to either remove your rear fenders or unbolt the bolts towards the front of the fender. But if you use caution you can adjust the ride height without removing the torshion springs, or fenders. PLEASE USE CAUTION, and be sure that the spring tenshion is unsprung before attempting to adjust your springs. I'd strongly suggest that you get your hands on a VW Service Manual 1st perferrerly "Bentlys" for refrence material so you can see what your about to tackel. Here is a quate from "Dee Berg" on how it's done.

IT'S 9 DEGREE'S ON THE INNER (COARSE),,,, AND 8 DEGREE'S 10 MINUTES ON THE OUTER (FINE),,, YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO DO ONE CLICK ON EACH SIDE (INNER & OUTER) IN OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS,,,, WHICH GIVES YOU A DIFFERENCE OF .50 MINUTES OR JUST UNDER 1 DEGREE ( 9 - 8.1 = .50MIN) (1 DEGREE = 60 MINUTES) DEPENDING ON WHICH WAY YOU WANT THE CAR TO GO,,, (UP OR DOWN) YOU TURN THE INNER IN THAT DIRECTION. LOOK'N STRAIGHT AT THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR,,, (HEADLITES AT THE RIGHT SIDE,,, TAIL AT THE LEFT) ( I MARK THE SPRINGPLATE TO THE TORSION BAR AS A START'N POINT BEFORE DISASSEMBLY),,, TURN THE INNER SPLINE CLOCKWISE 1 CLICK TO LOWER THE CAR,,,, AND PUT THE SPRING PLATE BACK ON 1 CLICK COUNTERCLOCKWISE FROM YOUR MARK (OR IT'S ORGINAL POSITION) WHICH EQUALS ALMOST 1 DEGREE LOWER,,,,, "IT'S LIKE TELL'N TIME,,,, WHERE 60 = 1,,,,,, 2 CLICKS INNER & 2 CLICKS OUTER IS 1 DEGREE 40 MIN (OR .50 MIN. + .50 MIN.) (IF YOU TAKE .10 MIN. FROM THE 2ND CLICK ADD IT TO THE FIRST CLICK TO MAKE 1 WHOLE DEGREE,,, THERE IS .40MIN REMAINDER OR 1 DEGREE 40MINUTES!!!!!) 1DEG. 40MIN + .50MIN.= 2 DEG. 30 MIN. +.50 MIN. = 3 DEG. 20MIN & SO ON,,,, GET IT?????? A SWING AXEL IS ABOUT 5 TO 6 CLICKS (INNER & OUTER) FOR ABOUT AN INCH LOWER!!!!!!! I HOPE THIS IS NOT TO CONFUSING AND SOMEONE CAN GET SOME USEFUL INFO OUT OF THIS!!!! IT'S VERY HARD TO TYPE INTO WORDS!!!!!!! MUCH EASIER TO VERBALIZE IT!!!!

WOW, um... WHAT?

Thats about as clear as mexican water. WOW.

I will have to print that out and take the print out to the car and look and see if it makes sense at the car versus at the computer.

I do have the bentley book as well.

Also is that for Swing and IRS both?

Re: Lowering the rear.

the best thing about coilover suspension is that is much easier to adjust just lift the car and adjust the height and thats all it takes forget all those hours spent trying to adjust the rear suspension
