VW/Honda Advice

Hey gang. I am new to this forum and new to the conversion scene. I own a auto repair shop and have a 70 beetle that I was going to install a subaru 2.5 into. My question though is that we specialize in Honda cars mostly and I am thinking of putting a v-6 into it. A few questions I hope someone can answer for me or point me in the right direction. I have access to a 96 v-6 acccord I can get cheap has motor, computer and all the wiring for 400.00 and I know it is good shape. I also have access to a 2000 model engine only for a fair price. What does it involve as far as modifying the loom or is it more common to just buy a loom and computer from vtec performance or someone like that. Also I was told the v-6 engines turn the right way so is this true and last is there a certain year that I should stay away from? Next if I go the Subaru route what are most people preferring on the engines 2.2 or 2.5 sohc or dohc..And what years are best on them. Do I need the whole vehicle loom and computer or just the engine bay loom..thanks in advance for any replies and have a great day!!

Re: VW/Honda Advice

Hello !
I dont know what loom means
I dont have my vw anymore and dont remember which way the engine turns
For the subaru engines questions, i suugest you go trough the older topics in the subaru section, you'll find your answers
This is not a fast active forum, but more a ressource library forum, well this is how i see it.
What i have to say to you is :
-You'll have to put a radiator in your bug, quite a job
-vw engine is a flat 4, so are the suabru engines, so no major mods to be done and the back lid will close. For the V6 engine, i don't think the back lid will close due to the size of the engine, dont forget about this if the standar look is important to you. You'll need an engine adapter too, for the clutch and the engine/tranny bolting.

First thing to know, is why are you swapping the engine ? Performance, reliability, fuel economy,,, ?
I dont know how much hp and torque a standard vw tranny can handle...

Good luck
Take time to go around the forum topics, many things have been said.

the d and b series Honda's turn the opposite. we are currently putting a d series and auto trans in a vw thing its coming along nicely. it took allot of figuring but once we got the over all view of what we wanted it was the only way to go!

I've always heard that you don't want to put much more than 100 hp or so through a stock vw tranny. Also, everyone says the old subaru 1.8 is a good easy swap.

2.5, sohc 2001. the sand car industry does these all day.
the wire harness is a quick and dirty with a megasquirt stand alone--although the smog laws in cal bring you up to 2001 standards for the engine--the honda v6 with transaxle are popular for the mid engined conversion, like in a squareback. rock solid powertrain.
